Chapter 3

Huh! The space recognizes it's true owner. It was the only reasonable explanation Su Yan could come up with. This way, she can eat nutritiously in the end times without any scruples in her heart. Fresh food is indeed better for the body, although, she would never dislike instant ones. After suffering in the apocalypse, Su Yan could eat anything without complaint. She even remembers chewing on tree barks, to alleviate some hunger. Being reborn is indeed great. Su Yan no longer dwelled on it, and quickly cleaned up her plate. After grabbing her phone, wallet and keys, she left the house to meet the owner of the warehouse to sign the paperwork and the handing over of keys. Su Yan picked the location based on the lack of foot traffic and vehicles on the area. While it was relatively far, being an hour away from her home, this secluded location would ensure she was safe from suspicion. Pulling up at the warehouse, she was met with a security gate, with a stationed guard. She informed him of her meeting with the contact person, showing her message, and proceeded inside without further ado. There, she saw an older man waiting by one of the warehouses. Su Yan quickly wore her jacket, and a mask to conceal her appearance, before getting out of the car to meet him. After introducing herself, and signing the paperwork, the older man was curious as to why she hired a warehouse, "You seem young. What will you use the warehouse for?" "My family is moving back to the countryside, and we plan on opening a shop." Su Yan said without a hitch. "It's good that young people come back to their roots!" He praised, "Anyway, ah this place is indeed suitable. It's far from the community." Su Yan nodded, and thanked him after recieving the key. After scanning the warehouse, she nodded at the clean yet empty space before her. Her eyes quickly scanned the room for surveillance, and when she found none- she was happy. The older man happily left after she sent him a red packet. Taking full advantage of her travel, Su Yan stopped every once in a while to buy some food. By the fifth stop, she has taken 50 1L waters into the space, 10 boxes of tea, 30 chocolate bars without nuts, and with and 50 packs of compressed biscuits. Su Yan also bought two 6-pack noodles on each stop, totalling into 60 packs. She made sure to buy 3 packs of sanitary pads, 2 wet wipes on each stop and 10 packs of trashbags. Su Yan made sure to buy only a normal amount each time, lest she gets unwanted attention. She vividly remembered the gossip in the base, about some people sweeping goods before the apocalypse, ordering thousands of made food at once and buying goods to be delivered at their home. Su Yan could only assume they awakened space abilities and have read novels like herself- but they attracted people's attention. Even hearing some were beaten up bloody and bruised for their supplies. As much as possible, she wanted to be overlooked and disregarded. Su Yan was all too familiar with the ugly side of human nature during her ten years in the apocalypse; the human heart was truly a decietful thing, and she cannot trust anybody. She had witnessed all forms of evil, like trading family members for cold cut meat or a bottle of water. So long as food was involved, life was merely insignificant. Su Yan learned it the hard way. The sixth shop was a convenience store, and Su Yan grabbed a basket, intending to grab some water and some cold coffee. She only took three each, and moved to grab sodas in can; they would be a rare indulgence during the extreme heat. How many times has she wished to wet her dry throat with cold soda? Press the cold bottle against her flushed skin... ah. Although she seemed pre-occupied with choosing drinks, a group of boys near the entrance seemed to be pointing at her and making gestures. Su Yan was observing them from the corner of her eye, ready to kick them, should they make the wrong move. "Go and ask her already..." The boy whispered, pushing out a flustered boy. He took hesitant steps towards Su Yan, holding a phone nervously. He was awe-struck as soon as she came; it was rare to see such a beautiful girl everyday. She was wearing simple clothes, and a mask, but the beautiful pair of eyes and smooth forehead was enough for them to tell she was a great beauty. She seemed out for a midnight snack, as were they, after spending most of the night playing in one of the pc stores nearby. "Sister..." The boy was about to touch her shoulder politely, when Su Yan nimbly dodged his hand. Her eyes flashed a cold, calculative light, before slowly calming down and meeting his gaze. The boy was flustered by the deep set of her phoenix eyes, stuttering out a lame, "Can we add each other on wechat?" Su Yan was no longer used to such forward and innocent asks. Although she was merely twenty today, her soul was already thirty, and she regarded the same aged boy before her with an amused look. There wasn't much time for such affections in her old life, nor would she have it now. "I'm sorry, i have a boyfriend." Su Yan responded, and the boy stuttered out a weak sorry before scurrying back. She hummed and picked out two plain bag of chips, and 2 more barbecue flavored ones. Su Yan also picked out 3 bags of unsalted nuts, and 5 compressed biscuits. She also made sure to pick out 2 big cup noodles, looking like a typical college student. Along the drive home, Su Yan managed to buy supply that could last her atleast, five months comfortably. All in all, the day was not wasted, and she crawled to bed tired but somehow satisfied.
