CHAPTER FIVE

TALIA’S POV "I... I would never do such," I stuttered in panic, looking around, trying to find an explanation for this. He stared at me for a long while, the anger in his eyes subsiding. Groaning, he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Go home, Vera," he spoke softly. She looked skeptical as her gaze wandered from me to him. I tried to give her a reassuring smile, but with the look on her face, I guess I wasn't successful. "It's okay," I added in a slightly shaky voice. She stood up carefully, bowed briefly to Mathias before walking out. My mate looked at me, as he slowly picked up the glass pitcher, and emptied it on the floor, his gaze gaze never leaving me. He stretched the pitcher toward me, and I took it in both of my hands which were shaking uncontrollably. I looked inside to see the deep purple color of wolfsbane dancing gently at the bottom of the pitcher, as if mocking me. I held my hand to my mouth and gasped in genuine surprise and horror. "I swear, I..." Before I could finish speaking, I was pulled off my seat by the arm and dragged upstairs. I yelped in pain. "I don't know anything about this please, Mathias believe me." But he ignored me totally, his jaw locked in anger. I looked away from his face to where he was taking me to and I began to tremble all over. My legs stiffened on their own and refused to move. Realizing I wasn't moving, he wasted no time and picked me up, throwing me over his shoulder and advanced gradually to the dreaded black door—the punishment room. I gradually left my body and locked myself in that part of my mind that can't be touched, that part where I can feel no pain and hear no sound. ********************************** VERA'S POV "What do you mean by she didn't eat it?" Reuben asked anxiously as he busted into my apartment without knocking. "Exactly what you heard on the phone," I replied, rolling my eyes. Not like I wanted to fail too, you i***t I also have something at stake here. After all, I was the master mind behind this whole plan. Doing some digging into our newly appointed Luna's past, I stumbled upon a very interesting secret. A secret the whole pack could have known if they weren't blinded by prejudice and hatred. Human minds so fickle and easy to manipulate. Having this weapon in my arsenal, I threatened to oust the culprit but promised to keep his secret if he helped in getting rid of his niece. This, he readily agreed to and I realized I didn't even need to threaten him in the first place. Though now, it seems getting rid of his niece is proving to be an impossible task. He ran a hand through his blonde hair in frustration. "This is the third time, Vera!" he paced around. "Third time, and still you can't dispose of one scrawny little wolf." His attitude was beginning to annoy me, but I couldn't discard him just yet. I forced myself to be level-headed and walked towards him with a sly smile on my face. "Calm down," I placed my hand on his chest. "We have leverage here." "Which is?" he asked. "Trust," I grinned wide and a giggle bursted out. "She trusts me." ********************************* TALIA'S POV I was taking a rest at the foyer, reclining on a sofa, enjoying the cool breeze and the solitude of the quiet house. Mathias had gone to the neighboring town for pack business and he would mostly like be back the next day, Amen. During the past few days I had been getting used to my situation, learning to make lemonade out of the lemons which life has continually given me. I realized moaning though a difficult task it was, whenever he was on me improves his mood a little, probably it gives him a clear conscience that I'm enjoying his invasive act. "Enjoying all by yourself?" Vera popped her head out of the entrance, grinning down at me. I returned it with a small smile of my own. I couldn't have remained sane all these while without her help and support. "Ta-da!" She stretched out two drinks and I gratefully took one, enjoying the coolness in the palm of both hands. "Reuben sends his regards," she said sipping from her drink. I shook my head as I replied, "I really do not know what you see in my uncle," I stared at her in concern. I found out they were dating when I popped in one day unannounced and met the two of them in an amorous position. "Probably the love I have for you has extended to him," she teased and we both laughed at that as I took a sip of my drink. "I honestly feel you can get yourself a better man," She smiled strangely. "I'm working on that," I raised a brow in question and she just laughed it off. "I'm serious Vera," I drew close to her and brushed her face lightly with my fingers. "You know you mean a lot to me, like the sister I never had but had always wished for, I don't want you to go through what I'm currently...." She laughed loud and long cutting me off, while I stared at her in surprise. "Worry about yourself Reyna," She managed to reply between gulps of laughter. I smiled at her response and took another sip of the orange juice. I heard the front door open and close softly. I raised both brows in question and she replied with a shrug. I stood up to go check who it was when Reuben suddenly walked through the entrance. Vera looked up at him in surprise. "What are you doing here?" He looked at her and then his gaze settled on me as I stood up to face him. "I'm here to make sure you don't f**k things up again," he glowered. "What are you both talking about, what could possibly go wrong?" I looked from one person to the other not liking the feeling I was getting in my gut. "You fool, you could have spoiled everything just now with your impatience," she faced Reuben and turned around to stare at me. The look on her face suddenly switched from confusion to a smile full of malice. The Vera standing before me wasn't the Vera I had known these past months. I suddenly felt a very sharp pain in my stomach and was forced to doubled over as the pain began to spread. "About time," She clapped her hands in glee and pranced towards me. A fresh wave of pain hit me this time hard in the chest, it was more intense than the first causing blood to spurt out of my mouth. "What have you done?" Blood ran freely down my eyes as I looked up at the two of them in pain.
