ch.4 the scent

ZOEYS POV

I was having the best night I've ever had in a very long time. People are actually talking to me and it wasn't to put me down or tell me to do what they wanted me to do. I was so happy for once and I had a full blown smile for once.

That is until I hear her. Brenda's annoying voice and fake laugh is so loud I can hear it over the music. The sound is enough to make me want to rip my ears off, or rip her tongue out so she can't ever talk or laugh again.

I was on my way to tell her to stop being so damn loud when the breeze blew this intoxicatingly wonderful smell my way. It was so distracting that I literally tripped over myself. I heard her make a nasty comment but I could careless as I straightened up and continued following the smell of spice mixed with fresh citrus. It was like I was put under a spell just by this smell alone and all I could do was follow it.

I found myself walking deeper into the woods that surround our pack territory. I was starting to get scared of where it was leading me to when I heard the sound of running water. I started to run towards the sound of water and the scent was getting stronger when I finally came to a large pool of water that was so blue and clear with a water fall that looked like crystals it was something so amazing it should be kept a secret.

I was so amazed at the sight I didn't see anyone else there until they spoke.

"what are you doing here? How did you find this place?" Asher asked before.

"I don't know. I don't even know where here is." I said to him.

"what do you want?" He asked as he came up to me and grabbed my wrist. As soon as he touches me sparks erupted in my wrist and spread up my arm.

His eyes widened as he quickly let go. I wanted to reach out and touch him to feel the sparks again but I didn't want to look desperate.

"You're my mate?" He asked. He didn't look disgusted but he also didn't look to happy.

"I guess so. that is unless you don't want me" I told him as I looked anywhere but in his eyes. I wouldn't be able to hold my self together if I had to watch him reject me.

"I don't get it" he said

"look I don't understand what is so hard to get? Moon Goddess paired us together because apparently she saw something in us that was ment for each other. But if you can't see that and you are so stuck up you still can't stand me just because I am different then I'll just end this here. I Kore Smith, Daughter of Beta Nathaniel Smith and future Beta herby mmphm humph umph."

"What do you think you are doing?"Asher asked with dark eyes that shone with his anger and hurt.

"hrmmph" I tried saying but then pointed to his hand still covering my mouth and sending those amazing shocks through my body.

He slowly removed his hand and we stood inches from each other neither one moving. He finally cleared his throat and looked away.

"What do you think you were trying to do?" he asked again.

"well you don't want to be my mate right?" I asked hurt."so I was gonna reject you so you wouldn't look like the bad guy by rejecting me" I continued to say trying not to cry.

"that's not what I was saying im just confused and shocked is all" he said turning away from me.

"But..." I tried to say but he cut me off.

"I just need to sleep and think give me some time please this isn't a rejection." he said with a pleading tone.

"ok" I said in a whisper but I know he heard me because he walked off.

Once I couldn't see him anymore my legs gave away and I fell down crying. Why did it have to be him. I've had a crush on him ever since I turned thirteen. But it was always in vain I couldn't get close to him because of Brenda but when our parents were together so were we.

He was always so good looking it was hard not to crush on him he has ginger brown hair that has a natural messy look to it. It wasn't to long or to short it was perfect. It framed his brown eyes just right. I can stair into his brown eyes all day and get lost in them.

But why did it have to be him. He never cares about me before. He never tried to stand up for me and tell everyone to leave me alone instead he just turned a blind eye and walked away when they start to hit me. How could he ever be my mate. At first I was so happy because then it'd be even easier for me to make everyone leave me alone and to continue to establish my dominance. But now I just know he is going to reject me. And while everyone will have to listen to because I am the beta. They will still disrespect me because the future alpha didn't want me.

I don't know how long I was there crying but when I finally got up and found my way home the ball was almost over and hardly anyone was there. My mom walked up to me and once she saw me slapped me so hard she split my lip.

"how dare you skip your chores, now you can stay here all night and clean this place up alone, andthen you get to make breakfast for the pack and all the visiting packs who will bestaying the night because they traveledfrom a far." she yells at me.

"yes ma'am" I sighed in relief I didn't get beating in front of whoever is left here as I have to plaster and fake smile and continue with the party

once everyone started saying goodnight and leaving. it wasn't long before the ballroom was cleared out and was once again empty and I started to clean up as punishment.

"So what happened? " angel asked scaring me

"That's the thing I don't know what happened. One minute I'm at the ball having a good time the next thing I know I catch this amazing scent that is hypnotizing and I'm blindly following it into the woods" I start to explain when I'm cut off.

"OH MY GOSH YOU FOUND YOUR MATE!!" she excitedly yells. For the second time that night I start to cry. Angel hugs me as I cry.

" if you don't want to talk about it you don't have to ok" she says smoothing my hair out of my face. I can't talk so I just nod my head.

"Just know I am always here for you when you decide to talk ok " she says kissing the top of my head. Once again I just nod and look at the ceiling and cry for a few minutes.

"ok I'm ready" I say as she looks at me worried.

" Are you sure?" she asks me

"yes" I said

"so I don't know what happened he didn't reject me and didn't let me reject him. But he said he just needs to think. what does that mean?" I ask as I finish telling her what happened without trying to tell her who my mate is and with tears slowly running down my face.

"Who the hell does he think he is not wanting you but still not rejecting you. He should at least have the balls to reject you so you don't have to be tied to this pathetic excuse of a man. Don't worry you'll get your second chance and he will be amazing because that's what you are" she rants which actually makes me feel a bit better and made me giggle alittle.

"thanks you are the best I love you. But I'm wiped because of tonight and want to go to bed" I explain and hug her goodnight.

"Night" she says as I head to the basement to my room and close my door.

Once in my room I headed straight for my night clothes and then sneak upstairs to the omegas bathroom and turned the shower on as hot as it'll go and then started to undress and step under the shower head and let the hot water wash away all my problems from tonight. After the water started to run cold I turned it off and stepped out the shower and dried off. I sneak back to my room and threw myself on my old bed and climbed under my covers and fell asleep but I fall asleep to a pair of piercing blue eyes.
