The drive back is agonizingly long. No one speaks and Thane is hyper-aware of both Lennon in the back seat behind him and the woman in his arms. When they reach ThunderRidge Pack territory, Mac drives them to a smaller house first, used as a medical center. He then drives away with Leo and Lennon, presumably to put Lennon under guard in the pack’s jailhouse.
Thane wastes no time in rushing the woman in his arms into the medical center. Blasting through the link for anyone Wolf inside to come to his aid. A rather shocked, petite woman with glasses answers him immediately. She doesn’t waste time gawking but directs Thane to place the unconscious woman on an exam table, then gets straight to work pulling out tools and setting up two IVs, one with plasma and another with fluids mixed with general antibiotics and painkillers.
“What happened?” Tasha, the pack's resident doctor asked softly, her eyes on her work and not on the strained face of her Alpha. She’s used to doing basic checkups and giving vaccines to the children. Nothing nearly this vile, certainly nothing that doesn't heal itself in a few days.
“She was found in Hellfire’s pack house stitched through with silver,” Thane explains, his expression heavy and tired. He’s still furious and the edge of it is there, but now that she’s here, safe and under care, his worry and Rowan’s is at the forefront. His wolf desperately paces at the back of his mind, making increasingly violent threats about what will befall Lennox if she dies.
Tasha nods and starts to gently extract each piece of silver chain from her skin carefully to be sure to remove every link. She works without comment as Thane drops into a chair in a corner of the room utterly silent, but his amber eyes frozen to his mate’s face.
Mate, I have a mate. The thought put a shiver down his spine. He was 27, one of the youngest alphas currently reigning, and certainly the youngest to ever take over the ThunderRidge Pack. But he had been without a mate the whole time. Had left the duties of Luna to Leo’s mate, Katya. But now… His eyes drifted over her face. Relaxed now under the painkillers. She was lovely, even covered in blood. He would have found her lovely no matter what she was covered in because she was his. His. And there was no way in hell he was going to let anyone take her from him. Not even death.
“Is there anything I can do?” he asks, his voice cracking slightly.
Tasha gave him a sympathetic look and then turned back to what she was doing. “You can track down the bastard that did this and kill him. No one deserves to be tortured like this”. Tasha’s voice was unusually cold and angry. She was well known for her kindness and pleasant bedside manner, especially with the children, but if even the soft hearted Tasha wanted punishment for what had been done… Rowan howled in agreement and Thane rose to his feet.
“Let me know when she wakes,” he said softly before striding out of the room. When she wakes, not if. He reminded himself. Because she would wake up. He was sure of it. As soon as he left the medical center, he ran into Leo and Mac returning to him.
“Where is he?!” Thane’s voice was a low, murderous growl.
“In the jailhouse, under guard,” Leo said, peering behind him, “Is she…?” his words cut off as he saw the anger on Thane’s face.
“She’ll be fine, go help Tasha. Mac, you’re with me.” Thane ordered, storming towards the plain cinder block building that housed their holding cells.
