Bound by Fate - Chapter 6

760 Words
Thane slammed the door open to the jailhouse only to find two of his gamma’s down on the floor. He snarled, racing to their sides, but they were merely unconscious, the cell door open and Lennox nowhere to be found. He roared and shifted, sprinting from the building in a blind rage as he attempted to track the Hellfire Alpha, but somehow there was no scent. No trace of him. Mac was at his side in an instant. But he couldn’t find anything either. It was if Lennox had just vanished. Thane roared and summoned more of his warriors, eight in all and they sprinted in wolf form to Hellfire territory. The journey seemed much faster as he ran leading his pack, eager to rip out Lennon’s, which Rowan eagerly agreed with, but when they got to the Hellfire pack house it was empty, the rooms ransacked as if everyone had left in a hurry. Again they fanned out and again there was no sign of a trace, a trail, a scent of the Hellfire Pack outside the pack house itself. As if all of them had simply vanished into thin air. After hours of searching, Mac approached Thane. We should head back and get our trackers out here first thing in the morning. He said over the mind-link to Thane. Thane growled but knew the advice was solid. They had been left chasing their tails, and he was furious, but he needed to question the two guards and see if his mate was awake… Thoughts of his mate spurred him to action. He nodded once, then signaled to his warriors to return home. When he returned to the medical center, tired and still furious, Leo met him, showing him to a recovery room where she had been placed. She was clean now, wearing bandages over her arms and a white hospital gown. Tucked into fresh sheets and a blanket, two IVs dripped down to her, one of blood and the other of fluids and medicine. “She has too much silver in her blood to heal. We’re doing our best to transfer it, but she’s weak right now, and we don’t want to stress her too badly,” Leo explained in his calm, level voice. Tasha was nowhere to be found, probably having left to leave the bad news for Leo to deliver. “We won't know how badly she’s been affected until she wakes up.” “But she will wake up,” Thane interjected, his voice a much harsher growl than he intended. Leo nodded, “She should, she’s surprisingly healthy despite what she’s been through. If I had to guess, I would say that she hadn’t been with them for long.” “Even a minute was too long,” Thane snarls as he sits in the chair next to her bed gently taking her hand in his. Her's warm and soft against his own calloused skin. “Thane…” Leo’s voice is hesitant as he came to his half-brother’s side, “What is she to you? I’ve never seen you act like this…” “She’s my mate,” He says simply his eyes sliding towards Leo as he hears the small intact of breath and then sees the widening grin. “Finally!” Leo almost laughs,” Katya will be relieved that she can hand over the duties of Luna.” “Let’s let her recover first,” Thane says with a roguish smile, knowing that his half-brother is more than pleased for him. His whole pack will be, once he announces it. Once she wakes up… “What about the guards?” he asks suddenly focusing back on Leo. “They’re fine, recovering at home. They were knocked out with some sort of syringe, but that's all they know. They’re not sure how Lennon got out of the cell. “I’ll speak with them tomorrow,” Thane says gruffly. Leo gives a nod, “You’ll sleep here then?” Thane nodded as if that would be obvious. “I’ll get you a blanket. Just link me if anything changes.” Leo heads from the room returning with a blanket before he leaves heading back to his own home and his waiting mate. Thane sighs softly, settling his muscular frame in the uncomfortable hospital chair. He gently reaches up and tucks a strand of dark hair behind her ear. “I’m here, little one. I’m not going anywhere,” he whispered, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. He then settles himself back to wait.
