Chapter 4

It's been exactly a month since the exhilarating intramurals wrapped up, and now, as we find ourselves on November 26, the hustle and bustle of schoolwork has completely taken over our lives. Our days are filled with a whirlwind of assignments, presentations, and relentless preparations for the upcoming exams, leaving precious little time to reflect on the camaraderie and thrill we experienced during those spirited games. The once lively chatter about team strategies, playful rivalries, and shared victories has been replaced by the relentless sounds of typing keyboards and the rustle of pages in the library, as we strive to catch up on everything we missed while immersed in the competitive spirit of the events. The clock on my wall chimed softly, marking 9 in the evening. Despite the late hour, I found myself struggling to focus on my schoolwork; my mind felt restless and unfocused, darting this way and that like a pinball. In a spur-of-the-moment decision driven by an urge for distraction, I thought, “Why not post a thirst trap?” I snatched my phone from the desk and glanced at my reflection in the camera, muttering, "Okay, na 'to," as I adjusted the angle, angling my face just right to catch the soft glow of the room’s overhead light. As I uploaded the post, a notification unexpectedly popped up: someone had sent me a friend request. I noticed we shared three mutual friends—a small network, which made me speculate he might be someone from our school. "Asher Jett sent you a friend request." Curiosity piqued, I paused for a moment to assess his profile picture. He had striking features—an inviting boyish face framed by tousled dark hair, and his smile radiated confidence and charm. Although I couldn’t quite place him, I guessed he was likely a student in the College Department at our school, especially since his bio mentioned being an “anchor” for the school newspaper, which sparked my interest even more. After a brief moment of contemplation, I made the decision to accept his friend request, intrigued by this mysterious guy who could potentially become a new connection in my social circle. My heart raced a little at the prospect of stepping into unfamiliar social territory and feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Minutes later, my heart skipped a beat as I noticed that he had flooded my f*******: story with a cascade of heart emojis. I allowed it to slide without immediate response, but when I stumbled upon his messenger notes, an instinctive gut feeling told me that he might be hinting at something more personal—something he seemed to want. Asher Jett Note: If she says hi, I'll make the first move. Kaia Andromea Note: hi hahahha It was a thrilling moment, tinged with the sweet possibility of making beginnings, as I pondered what it might mean for us. His messenger notes were genuinely intended for me, and as a result, we found ourselves engaged in a lively exchange through our messages. I burst into laughter when my friend Ish replied to my story with her characteristic bluntness: "You look stupid," she said, which only added to the amusement of the moment. On a different note, I chatted with another friend to accept Ish's invitation for me to be one of the sponsors for the maritime students' POS. It wasn’t because I had any particular affection for the man who was paired with me for this event; my motivation stemmed from my desire to see someone special at the gathering—of course, I'm referring to the captivating Asher Jett. The thought of being near him was enough to make the sponsorship worthwhile. POS, or the "Pass-Off Ceremony," is an important celebration typically honoring the Brigade members of the Corps of Cadets, particularly the Big Men on Campus (BMOC) and incoming officers. This event serves to recognize the achievements and leadership potential of these cadets as they transition to their new roles. While it primarily focuses on those stepping into positions within the ROTC program, the ceremony is also a celebration of camaraderie and the accomplishments of the entire unit. It showcases the dedication and commitment of the cadets as they prepare to take on greater responsibilities within the military structure.
