CHAPTER 20 Over the next couple days, Kaspian was too busy to think about much else aside from last rites for the dead and the aftermath of the battle. There were endless meetings between Lord Granat, Nikodem, Urszula, Brygida, Mama, and himself as they all tried to navigate the delicate balance of the new world they found themselves in. Ewa, Liliana, and Brygida had worked tirelessly, preparing the bodies for last rites and seeing to the injured, who were being housed inside the manor. The kitchen bustled, trying to feed Lord Granat’s army and the sick, and all hands were put to some sort of work. Much to his surprise, the village had turned out to help. They came in shifts: women of the village tending to the ill, men helping to carry and burn the bodies, children helping to catch gees
