CHAPTER 3 (Isabela’s POV) The plane ride felt endless. Asia is far much farther than I had imagined. Every hour, my excitement mixed with nerves, twisting into a strange knot in my stomach. Nathan, of course, seemed completely relaxed, leaning back in his seat, one hand resting on the armrest, the other brushing through his hair absentmindedly. I watched him, trying to copy his calm, but my thoughts kept drifting: the city, the culture, the adventure waiting for me. The hum of the plane, the steady rumble of the engines, and the soft chatter of other passengers created a steady background, yet I could barely focus. I took deep breaths, reminding myself that this was supposed to be a fun trip. Nathan reached over and lightly squeezed my hand. “Feeling okay?” he asked, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. “I think so,” I admitted, giving him a small, nervous laugh. “Just… so many hours.” He chuckled. “It’s a long flight, but think of it as practice for the adventure ahead.” I smiled despite my nerves, letting his optimism wash over me. Every time I looked at him, I felt that same warmth I had felt the first time he held my hand. Finally, the captain’s voice crackled over the intercom: “Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our descent into Singapore. Please fasten your seatbelts.” I pressed my forehead to the window, watching the sprawling city stretch out below us. Singapore looked like a world from another dimension: sleek, modern buildings reflecting the late afternoon sun, orderly streets lined with palm trees, and a calm, polished atmosphere that made New York feel chaotic by comparison. My stomach flipped with excitement. Nathan reached for my hand again. “Ready?” “As I’ll ever be,” I admitted, giving him a small laugh. The plane touched down smoothly, and soon we were walking through the terminal. The heat and humidity hit me immediately, a stark contrast to New York’s crisp air. I glanced around, taking in the modern design, the clean floors, and the quiet efficiency of the airport. Everything felt so organized, so… different. A black, glossy luxury car waited at the curb, gleaming in the sunlight. The uniformed driver opened the rear door with a polite bow. I froze. “Is… this our taxi?” I asked, my eyebrows raised in disbelief. Nathan laughed, a deep, amused sound. “You’re so funny, Isa. This is Singapore. Taxis aren’t quite like the ones back home.” I couldn’t help staring as I stepped inside. The leather seats smelled faintly of vanilla, the interior was spotless, and the car moved silently along the roads. “So… yes, it’s a taxi here?” I asked again, half-teasing. “Let’s just say it’s a very special taxi,” he replied, grinning. He buckled his seatbelt and glanced at me. “Sit back and enjoy the ride.” I pressed my face to the window, watching the city blur past. Everything was so polished, so orderly. There was a strange elegance to the way Singapore unfolded around us, and I found myself fascinated by every detail the gardens, the fountains, the skyscrapers that seemed to sparkle even in the afternoon light. Nathan glanced at me, his dark eyes warm. “You’re taking it all in.” “I can’t help it,” I admitted, smiling. “It’s… unreal.” He chuckled. “I’m glad you’re enjoying it.” After a short drive, we arrived at the hotel. Even from the outside, it looked magnificent tall, glass towers shimmering under the sun, soft golden lights illuminating the entrance. The lobby was spacious but not overwhelming, with soft marble floors, intricate floral arrangements, and attentive staff greeting Nathan warmly. I tried to act natural, but my mouth must have been hanging open because he laughed softly. “Our room is ready,” he said, taking my hand. “Let’s check in and rest a little.” The elevator ride was silent except for the soft hum, and soon we stepped into our room. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view of the city below. The bed was enormous, dressed in crisp white linens, and the faint scent of fresh flowers lingered in the air. I turned to Nathan, laughing softly. “This is insane. You said we were just staying at a hotel.” He shrugged casually. “Hotels here are a little… different.” “I see,” I said, trying to mask my awe. “So, in Singapore, hotel rooms feel like palaces?” “You’re exaggerating,” he replied, smiling. “Just a little.” After settling in, we had a simple dinner from room service, laughing quietly as we unpacked some of our things. Nathan teased me about my overpacked suitcase, and I shot back at him about his minimalist packing skills. It felt good to relax after the long flight, just the two of us. Later, as we got ready for bed, I changed into a soft nightgown. Nathan was already under the covers, smiling as I crawled in beside him. “Long day?” he asked, pulling me close. “The longest,” I admitted, resting my head on his chest. We lay together quietly, listening to the faint sounds of the city below. He kissed the top of my head, and I felt tension melt from my shoulders. “I can’t believe I’m here,” I murmured. “Tomorrow will be fun,” he said. “We’ll explore a little, and I know you’ll enjoy it. Also… you mentioned seeing your friend Tara while we’re here, right?” I nodded, a smile tugging at my lips. “Yes. I’ll visit her tomorrow. I haven’t seen her in ages, and I think she’s staying with her family while we’re in Singapore.” Nathan grinned. “Then plan on some sightseeing before that. I’ll make sure you get a proper tour.” I trust you Nathan, you're so sweet. “Of course,” he said, pulling me closer. “I wouldn’t let you wander this city alone.” Later, as we made love, the world outside faded. It was just him, me, and the quiet intimacy we shared. I was grateful for these moments, for Nathan’s calm presence, and for the adventure that awaited us in the days ahead. That night, lying in his arms, I closed my eyes and let myself drift to sleep, thinking of Singapore, Tara, and the small adventures waiting just beyond the window. No family pressures, no expectations just the thrill of being here, together, in a world completely new.
