Chapter 11 Sophia could still feel Damian’s hands around her waist long after he released her. The tension between them became painfully intense. “You should be more careful,” Damian said quietly. Sophia stepped back nervously. “I’m fine.” But her racing heartbeat betrayed her completely. Damian stared at her for a moment before removing his suit jacket and placing it gently over her shoulders. “The weather is cold.” Sophia blinked in surprise. This small act of kindness felt strange coming from someone as cold as Damian Blackwood. “Thank you,” she whispered softly. Damian said nothing. Instead, his eyes remained fixed on her face in a way that made her chest tighten again. Why was he suddenly looking at her like that? Sophia quickly looked away. “This changes nothing between us.” Damian’s jaw tightened slightly. “You keep reminding yourself of that.” Sophia frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Before Damian could answer, his phone suddenly rang. His expression immediately darkened after seeing the caller ID. Olivia. Sophia noticed it instantly. Damian declined the call without hesitation. But seconds later, another message appeared on his screen. Sophia accidentally saw the words. “I need you. Please.” The atmosphere changed immediately. Damian looked frustrated. “I have to go.” Sophia crossed her arms defensively. “Of course you do.” Damian stared at her carefully. “Don’t start imagining things.” Sophia laughed bitterly. “You’re the one acting suspicious.” For a brief moment, Damian looked like he wanted to explain something. But instead— He walked away silently. Leaving Sophia standing alone once again.
