The studio doors swung open to the beat of pounding music.
Mara strode inside wearing an expensive evening gown. The Cartier watch glittering on her wrist was the very one purchased with my hard-earned money.
"Lachlan, you look amazing today." Without a trace of shame, Mara walked straight onto the stage and planted a kiss on Lachlan's lips right in front of me. Lachlan grinned and pulled her into his arms as though they were the perfect couple.
Watching the two of them flaunt their affair so openly made me sick. "Ms. Sinclair, you're using my money to play rich. Do you have any shame at all?" I snapped.
Mara raised an eyebrow and slowly stepped away from Lachlan. "Careful, sweetheart. That's a little harsh." She strolled toward me. "If Lachlan wants to spend money on me, that just means I'm worth spending it on." She rolled her eyes. "If you couldn't keep your man interested, how is that my fault?"
I slapped her hand away when she tried to touch me. "You drive the car I bought, wear the watch I paid for, and sleep with my fiancé, yet somehow you think you're the one with a point?"
Instead of getting angry, Mara laughed. "Oh, I've done a lot more than drive your car." She turned toward the host and took the microphone. "Since we're all here to tell the truth, let me share something too."
The audience immediately leaned forward.
"Celine is the biggest fool I've ever met." She smiled maliciously. "Her car's dashcam records audio as well as video."
A murmur spread through the crowd.
"One time, Lachlan and I were fooling around in the back seat, and I deliberately turned the camera toward us."
The audience collectively gasped.
Mara's smile widened. "I wanted to see how long it would take her to figure out she'd been cheated on." She laughed. "The answer? More than a month. She drove that car every day and never once bothered to check the memory card. Tell me, is that pathetic or what?"
Lachlan burst out laughing. "She's always been clueless." He shrugged. "I ended up deleting the footage myself because it was taking up storage space. Celine would've never found it anyway."
I trembled with anger. My eyes burned as I stared at them. "You two really think being shameless is a personality trait?"
Mara shrugged. "It's called living for excitement." She smirked. "A work-home-work routine robot like you wouldn't understand."
Her gaze swept over me. "While you were out working yourself to death every day, I spent more time in your bed than you did."
I froze. "What do you mean?"
Mara's smile turned smug. "That robot vacuum in your apartment?" She pointed a finger. "That was our signal."
The audience fell silent.
"The moment you left for work, Lachlan would start the robot vacuum. I'd hear it, use the spare key, and let myself in." She grinned. "You'd barely be out the door before I was climbing into your bed."
Lachlan nodded eagerly. A nostalgic smile spread across his face. "Sometimes you'd come home unexpectedly during lunch to grab a file. Mara would be hiding naked inside the closet."
He laughed. "One time you were searching through a drawer less than two feet away. I thought my heart was going to stop. I was terrified you'd open the closet." He smiled excitedly. "That feeling of almost getting caught was incredible."
I clenched my jaw so hard it hurt. The home I had worked so hard to build had become their playground.
The host seized the moment. His voice dripped with excitement. "So the two of you were playing quite a dangerous game right under Ms. Ashford's nose."
He turned to Mara. "Weren't you afraid she might catch you one day?"
Mara snorted. "Catch us? So what?"
She folded her arms. "Celine is obsessed with Lachlan. Even if she found out, all he'd have to do is sweet-talk her for a few minutes."
The audience booed loudly.
Mara remained unfazed. "Besides, she's a complete pushover. Even if we ended up in a fight, she'd be the one getting hurt."
I drew a steady breath and kept my expression cold. In truth, I couldn't have been more pleased. Mara and Lachlan were proving far easier to manipulate than I had anticipated. Every smug confession, every careless word, was giving me exactly what I needed. Everything was falling into place. They were so busy enjoying their moment that they didn't realize they were building the case against themselves. All I had to do was let them keep talking.
I stared at their ugly, smug faces. My voice was cold as ice. "You really aren't afraid of karma, are you?"
