Paul and Sarah sat at the dining room table eating a simple evening meal. Neither seemed enthusiastic about food and pushed their plates away half finished. “Sorry you had a bad day,” he began, studying her for signs of stress. She pulled a resigned face. “I"ll get over it. At least they didn"t become angry or make threats.” She sighed. “But they"ll be hard to win back. How did your day go?” “It was mixed.” He paused. As much as he would have liked to talk to her about Michael Oliver, past experience made him feel it was unwise.
