Ray and Martin ate in the canteen, then went down to the basement to begin searching through the cold case files. After an hour"s careful sifting, they each selected a single case, heading back to their office to examine them in detail.
"What have you got?" Ray asked.
"I"ve an account of a walker, one Richard Spencer, who was a regular hiker on the moors, but who walked out one summer"s day and never hiked back."
"I recall that Spencer case," Ray said. "Must be at least twenty years ago."
"Twenty two to be precise," Martin confirmed. "He was found dead in a moorland clough, without any apparent cause."
