Sarah cycled through the sunny summer lanes of Walden. She passed well-tended gardens, orchards laden with nuts and fruit. Villagers of all ages worked in the fields. They waved to her. She waved back happily. Walden seemed like a friendly place after her frosty reception in Low Moor. Paul had left her alone in the vicarage, with nothing to do except help Beryl in the kitchen garden. But she had her bike now and it was ideal weather to ride out to Walden and get to know the local countryside. Paul couldn"t expect her to be a prisoner in the vicarage.
