Adapt and Overcome

    She didn't know how long she had been curled up in the recliner. She had just been lying there in numbness, her mind was blank now. It was starting to get dark and she didn't know how long it had been since they left. So got up and tried the light switch, nothing. No electricity. No problem they had a back up generator and solar panels. Only thing the easiest way to kick it on was outside and she had promised. She stood at the back door contemplating how bad it would be if she did go out. Usually she was not indecisive but for some reason his tone stuck with her, his demeanor since he had promise stuck with her too. He had been getting really warm and he had a presense being a big guy but it was different like he radatiated power. Not to mention he was a bit scary. She knew she should listen she didn't want to find out what would happen if  she didn't but she needed power, she was getting cold and had no hot water for a shower. She pulled the curtain just enough to peek out to find her back yard full of gargoyle looking creatures. And that settled it for her, nope, nope nope, no going outside. She went to a closet in the hall and dug out some lanterns and light them. She put one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom and set the other on the coffee table of the living room. She got busy starting a fire in the wood cookstove in the kitchen. This would have to do. The well had a backup of its own that would kick on atumatically so she had always had water. She dug out four big pots filled them water and put them on the stove to heat up. She could at least take a bath. She got spagettios out of the cubboard and ate them right out of the can. 

    The things outside had started making all kinds of noise, she could  hear them on the roof as well. She was starting wonder if they would break windows and get in. A sudden pounding on her door made her jump out of her skin. She got her pistol out of the drawer and crept through the living room. She barely moved the curtain with the barrel and exhaled loudly when she saw it was Eli. She flipped the lock and let him in. HE set down his bag, locked the door and gave her a bright smile. "Hey, lady how you doing?" "UH, ok I guess, what are those things outside?" "Gargoyles, harmless to you, odd they're here really, but since they are they won't hurt you, they show up to protect. He said nothing about sending them, which is why it's odd, they showed up on their own." "Oh, um well , okay. Anyway I  will give you tour and show you the guestroom, make yourself comfy, I am not a great hostess so just help yourself feel free to snoop if you can't find something." 

    She showed him around and left him to settle in. She was packing a pot of water to bathroom, when she felt the mirror thing on her chest start to get warm, by the time she got the pot dumped it was hot, like burning her hot. She ripped it off, as she was inspecting it she thought it was soot from the stove on her wrist, it didn't wipe off she looked closer, it was like a tattoo had just appeared on her wrist, a strange looking writing began to snake its way around her wrist and up the inside of her forearm, and it hurt and burned too. She was feeling weird also, kinda sick and dizzy, her vision got really blurry and she was shaky and slouched down the side of the tub. Her head was pounding. She rubbed her eyes, she rubbed to hard and her contacts fell out, but she could see clear now and the headache stopped. She was still dizzy and sick, the mirror thing and her wrist were really burning now, and to make matters worse it sounded like the gargoyles were really making a racket now. She was reeling at this point every inch of her hurt and burned. She let out a yell, she couldn't help it. Eli heard and burst in. He crouched over and jerked his hand back when he touched her, "You're burning up, Felina what's wrong, what is going on?" "ahhh, owww I don't know, I'm so hot and I just hurt and don't feel good." she gritted out. "Okay, its okay, just hang in there I'm going to get Aries, I mean Arein over here!" Felina through her pain, noticed his stumble with the name, she also saw how he zoned out for a sec. "He is on his way, be here in just a few. Felina can you think of anything that might help, I don't know what to do, I don't know what's wrong! He was panicky. She was soo so so hot and the pain was unbearable now. She managed to growl out "Cold water, maybe aaahhhhhahhhh. OWWWWW!" She was writhing now, kind of like a seiszure. Eli stuck his hand in the tub, too hot, he turned to cold water on and searched for some towels, he soaked them and covered her with one and dabbed at her face with the other. She was really yelling in pain now, thrashing around wildly, it burned him when she landed a couple a unintentional blows. The water was still to hot, he was really panicking now. Aries just burst in the room, he had a look of terror on his face, he pulled Eli away and actually felt a sting when he touched her, that was weird, fire itself never hurt him. She was yelling and writhing the towels were steaming. He picked up and dumped her in the tub. It seemed to help some, she let out a groan of relief, and stopped thrashing. "What's happening to me?" she breathed out. "I, I don't, I don't know." Aries caught her wrist and inspected it. He looked back at Eli, he had a grave expression. He picked up the mirror tossed it to him and said "Get Hermes, and tell him to be quick." 

    Eli hestitated and opened his mouth to say something. Aries cut him off "Do it, it's fine the gargoyles are blocking the magic!" Eli flipped it open ans firmly said "Hermes." "What do want?" came an irritated voice. "It's me,Eli, Aries says come quick!" He turned the mirror to show him the scene , Aries had Felina's wrist held up the marks were up to her elbow now and the water was steaming, she was screaming and thrashing again, Aries looked back and roared "f*****g hurry Hermes!" Hermes eyes widened, "Eli where are you?" Eli flipped the mirror around and said "Cloudy, Wyoming,USA, look for the gargoyles." The mirror went black and he flipped it shut. He joined Aries trying to hold her down, she was showing bruises all over from thrashing and her nose bleeding, but it was blue? Aries looked at him hard they both had eyes filled with worry. Eli pulled the plug to let out the water, it was ice cold a few ago and now both of them could hardly stand the heat, they had her pinned under the faucet with the water running down her shoulder. "Felina," said "Is it helping? What do we do?" She met his eyes with her tearfilled ones " The cold helllpppss, ahhhhhargg OWWWW! There's an ice machine in the basement." she croaked out. Eli was up and out in flash tearing open every door he saw until he found stairs leading down.  He was charging up the stairs at full speen with four buckets of ice, when a wind blew him back down, Hermes was here, finally. He raced up and jerked his head at Hermes, who followed him. He set down the buckets he and Aries dumped them in. Eli stopped the drain and he helped Aries hold her under the faucet. The relief hit her and she quit thrashing. They both let go and Aries crashed his head on his arms. They had left hand print bruises on her shoulders holding her down. Eli was just staring. Hermes had not said a word yet, Aries whipped around to see him frantically thumbing through a book with the same markings as on her wrist and arm. Hermes, looked up, the cold, the cold is good, find some dirt before she starts making it steam again. "Dirt" Aries asked "How much dirt?" "i don't know, it just says dirt, try this" Hermes grabbed a potted small tree next to toilet and handed it to Aries, "Dump it in tree and all!" And he did. SHe was more dozing off at this point. The roots of the tree started winding around her and up the trail of blue blood into her nose, it made her head jerk back her eyes snap wide open and she arched her whole body. Aries and Eli went to hold her down again "Don't!" Hermes cried "Don't touch her" "We just wait now, " "For what?" Aries asked. "For her to get done. She isn't human anymore, the rapture awaken a dormant scrap of DNA in her, Elysian was quite pleased, you see she is his great, great ,great great, great, great, great, great well you get the point granddaughter. He didn't think any of the legacy they tried to leave took, the others died long before this stage of transformation."  

    Hermes waited patiently as Aries and Eli stared at him with blank looks. Eli spoke up first, " Are you saying she is going wake up an elf? Even I thought those were truly myths. Have you been with the elves? Where did they go? What are they like? I just love all the stories I heard about them! Yes, she's a freaking elf, how awesome is that? I just knew she awesome, and she's your mate man!" He blurted out punching Aries in the arm. Aries grunted and rolled his eyes. Eli was 500 years old and forever acted like a teenager! He looked to Hermes and softened a bit, it was good to see his favorite sibling. Hermes cracked a dashing smile and answered, "Yes, she will wake up an elf, No elves aren't myths, yes I have been with the elves, and they are amazing, they went to their home I can't tell you where. Yes she must have been awesome if she made it this far. And I had forgotten you are a wolf, I didn't get to see that part way back when, And what's this I hear about her being your mate? Your hands were full before brother, but now I hold no envy for you whatsoever. Luna is very wise she gave you a love that can only match you. You have your work cut out for you."  Aries held his look and nodded his head. Hermes asked "Can I stay until she wakes up and meet her?" Aries nodded. "how long until she does?" "Don't know brother, the book doesn't say, it's all theory from this point on, I am to give it to her anyway, it will help her and she will need all of that she can get." Aries gave her a long look as the other two left the room. The soft light shone on her hair she looked like she just asleep now, the roots had wrapped around her as if they were holding her to comfort her and without them noticing a baby gargoyle had snuck in and was curled up on her chest. The bathtub was overflowing with flowers. He listened to even breathing and almost couldn't look away her beauty had grown, it was all he could do before but now, now it held him fast he memorized every last inch of her and left to wait with the others.  

    Felina was all but gone as soon as she felt the roots on her face. Her last thoughts before it went black was how pissed she was Aries and the other guy could just get in her house! She was a bit territorial and it irked her to no end two had just came in no matter her current plight. The root hit her brain and she went out. The inky blackness had her now. 

    She came too, her head hurt, her bones ached, and once again more questions than answers. She was tired of being patient about it. She pushed herself up and looked around, she was in an onyx black stone room. She let her eyes stop on the back of a dark haired head, on top of well muscled shoulders he was  bare on top and wore black jeans.  He turned around and gasped. "Oh, you're here!" She only looked hard at him hoping her gaze pushed for further information. He c****d his head and said " I have waited every day in this room for over 1200 years for you, no one told me this was who would show up. Give me one second to gather my manners..." He cleared his throat and then spoke again "Welcome, you lovely creature, I am Hades, and what do I  have the honor of addressing you by?" She pulled herself all the way up and strode toward him with her hand out, " I am Felina, what may I ask I am doing here?" He grabbed her hand and kissed it, his lips lingered longer than she liked, she let him though, she could tell he was somehow seeing everything about her. He staightened up with a jolt and dropped her hand. "oh, oh my stars, wait here, enjoy a beverage and some food, please get comfortable, I shall return with guests you should meet."  

    The room changed to a an outdoor setting, a sunny meadow surrounded by woods  with a set of patio furtinaure and a fire place crackling. The table was full of drinks and food. She saw nothing more to do than sit and wait. Soon she heard three sets of hurried foot steps the illusion shimmered as Hades burst in annoucing his guests. " Felina, my treasured one, may I present Luna the moon Godess and 

Elyisisan the King of the Elves"  Not knowing what else to do she rose and being in the presesnce of power she bowed. Elysian quickly stepped forward and took her hands in his. "Don't do that sweet girl," he smiled down on her, " You my princess are to bowed too." She took in his touch, it felt like home and family she had not had to comfort of knowing, it felt safe and warm and peaceful, like Arien's arms and chest did. She went to speak and he clipped her mouth shut with his fingers nder her chin, "Let me look at you dear, oh so so much more than I hoped for. You're so beautiful, gorgeous in fact,  And so strong, don't you think?" He turned to look at the other two.  She took the moment of his distraction to look at him, the uncanny reemblace was striking. She his strong jaw high cheek bones, pointed nose, dark hair and peircing green eyes,their build was the same only hers the femine to his masuline. He was indeed the reason she was anything at all. adn he was proud about it. 

     It was then Luna stepped forward and asked permisson to take her on a walk of sorts. "by all means, fill her in" her ancestor handed her hand to Luna's.
