The Vampire’s Bargain

1116 Words

Sera's POV The room they gave us was beautiful. Of course it was beautiful. Everything in the Crimson Court was beautiful in that cold, deadly way that made my skin crawl. Silk sheets on a bed large enough for six people, embroidered with threads of real gold. Curtains that shimmered like water, moving in a breeze I couldn't feel. A fireplace that burned with flames of pale blue, casting strange shadows across the walls lined with ancient tapestries. I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands clasped tightly in my lap, trying not to shake. Draven stood by the window, staring out at the darkness beyond. Through the bond, I felt his tension—the constant, vigilant awareness of a predator in enemy territory. He hadn't relaxed since we arrived. Probably wouldn't until we were safely back home.
