Diana gulped down her Ice Lemon Tea greedily before leaning back into her chair. The exhaustion from fleeing the mysterious man at the cemetery still weighed heavily on her. Occasionally, her eyes scanned the surroundings of the café through the white scarf draped over her head, ensuring that the mysterious man was no longer following her.
Not only the mysterious man but no one should know that she had returned to Giselle City. Throughout her journey to the café, her face had been plastered on posters on every wall in the city. Diana knew that the people of this city would always be on high alert to capture her, especially with such a large reward offered. If possible, she would have even wanted to capture herself just to earn that money.
So, while Diana was in this city, she had to be extra cautious before hiding in their old house. After meeting Abby, she would head straight home because Diana now felt like she was being watched.
"Where is that girl? I can't even see her. She invited us to meet here," Diana grumbled, checking her watch and starting to feel anxious.
"Guys! Look at this. Prince Eddie is so hot. Total daddy material," a girl's voice shouted loudly as she showed her iPhone screen to her friends.
"Since Aubriella is married to the prince that all the girls in this city dream about, I think I'll switch my focus to Prince Eddie," another girl said.
"Who knows, maybe my luck will be like Aubriella's. Tortured and then suddenly marry the prince of my dreams. Oh my god, how amazing," the squeaky girl's voice made Diana's stomach churn as she overheard their conversation.
"Ugh, you. I'll find Aubriella's step-sister and tell her to torture you like she did to Aubriella. Serves you right," one of the girls joked, followed by laughter.
"But why hasn't Aubriella's step-sister been caught yet? I hate seeing her face in newspapers and flyers. The paper with her face is even used as a mat for feeding dogs. The dogs won't even touch it,"another girl vented. Diana almost choked on her drink upon hearing the girls right behind her badmouthing her.
"Right. Pretty face but her behavior is devilish. Every day I pray that Aubriella's step-sister gets caught. Then she'll know what Aubriella has been through. Ugh, it makes my heart ache!"
"Ugh. Is Aubriella's step-sister really that beautiful? I think she's just average. I'm prettier," the squeaky girl continued.
"What an impudent bunch of immature kids. They're having a blast gossiping about me. They were talking about Prince Eddie earlier, and now my name is involved. I swear, if I end up becoming Aubriella's step-sister here too, you'll all regret it. I'll make sure you don't get married until you're old," Diana muttered, cursing the girls behind her. It seemed she was the most hated person in this city. She was the wicked witch.
"Diana," someone whispered, causing Diana to look up.
"Abby!" Diana's voice was almost a shout as she pulled the girl's arm to sit in front of her.
"Where have you been? I've been waiting for you for half an hour! And those snotty kids behind me were gossiping about me," Diana complained in a low voice.
"Er, sorry babe. I had a little issue at the palace earlier. That's why I'm a bit late,"Abby grinned.
Diana took a sip of her coffee.
"So, what's the plan? How are you going to help me get my mother out of the palace?" Diana asked, full of hope.
"Err, hmm, how should I put this?" Abby stopped drinking and scratched her head.
"Just tell me," Diana said, puzzled.
"I can't, D," Abby replied with a troubled expression.
"Can't? Why not? You're the one who invited me here to tell me about your plan. What do you mean you can't?" Diana's frustration grew. Diana had returned to this city, risking capture by the palace, just to hear Abby's plan to help her rescue Mrs. Janet. But Abby's response today was truly disappointing.
"I-I'm sorry, D," Abby said to Diana.
"Huh?" Diana was confused.
"I care about you, D. You're my friend, but I had to do this," Abby began to cry in front of Diana.
"Abby, what are you talking about?" Diana was increasingly confused by Abby's behavior.
"Diana Darian. Please come with us to the palace," a palace guard approached their table.
Diana was increasingly confused by what was happening. She tried to escape, but one of the palace guards managed to stop her.
Both of Diana's wrists were handcuffed, and her body was roughly pushed forward to be taken away.
Diana glanced around the restaurant, filled with customers who were also watching her with malicious satisfaction. She could even hear the applause of the customers. The people of Giselle City truly despised her.
Finally, the wishes of those girls were fulfilled as Diana was successfully captured. Today was probably one of the happiest days for the people of this city, as she had been caught after so long. Before Diana was led out of the restaurant by the palace guards, she cast a last glance at Abby, who was still crying intensely. Abby's mouthing of the word 'sorry' made Diana's heart sink further with disappointment.
How could you, Abby?
