In full view of everyone, Matthew Powell calmly placed the phone to his ear and made a call.
It didn’t take long.
The sharp wail of sirens cut through the air as four police cruisers came screaming down the street. Moments later, a group of uniformed police officers moved in with practiced efficiency, forming a perimeter and forcefully dispersing the crowd.
The atmosphere shifted again.
First came surprise—then a wave of mocking jeers.
“Oh, come on… wasn’t he supposed to stand alone against the world? In the end, he still called the cops.”
“Knew it. All that big talk was just posturing.”
One reporter sneered openly. “Just wait. I’ll make sure I write him into the ground. He dared offend us? I’ll make sure he’s socially erased.”
