The engine screamed as the car tore through the streets, accelerating without restraint toward the Lacy villa. Traffic lights blurred into streaks of red and green, the cityscape of Valor City flashing past the windshield like a fevered hallucination.
Behind the wheel, Matthew Powell drove with one hand, the other gripping his phone so tightly his knuckles had turned pale. His jaw was clenched, every muscle in his body wound taut, as if the slightest release would cause him to explode.
The call connected.
“Get everyone moving. Now,” Matthew Powell said, his voice low but vibrating with lethal intensity. “I want every available man out there. Find Rebecca Lacy. Find my daughter. I don’t care what it costs. Turn Valor City upside down if you have to—but my daughter must be safe.”
