They left the building and ran quickly onto Workshop Way. The factories were closed down for the night and rose high above them, dark and deserted, as they went quickly past.
“Through here,” said Sam and he ran through a tiny gap between two huge dark walls.
“It’s Duster Alley,” panted Belle, “where we found the first No-Life Man.”
“It’s too late to think about that now,” said Alice. “Come on.”
They came out of the alley and turned left onto the Third Circle and kept going until they reached Avenue R. From there they could see back to the Green.
“No-one’s coming after us yet,” said Sam. “They must still be searching the Opinion building.”
“We’ll go straight up the Avenue then,” said Alice. “It’s the quickest way.”
So they began the long journey towards the old goldm
