Julian’s POV
“Hope everything is intact for the meeting with Ethan Carr tonight?” I asked Leah as we walked into my office, my head banging from the little sleep I had last night all thanks to Mag and her late-night conversation. Times like this are when I miss having at least one staff member around that she could talk to, but Mag insisted we start hiring the staff for a day in the job and then they should leave at night for our privacy. Considering she is such an influential woman and the same for me, it was a very good idea for our safety but right now it is getting to me, she kept ringing it in my head to get a wife so she could disturb her instead and a part of me is actually considering marrying a woman just for that singular purpose. It would really take a lot off my shoulders.
“Mr.Thorne, are you okay?” Leah asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I sighed before responding, “Yes I am, just a bit tired”
"Oh sorry about that, would you like me to get anything for you?" She offered, her face filled with concern. If Leah wasn't in a very serious and dedicated relationship I would have mistaken all her care and concern for me for something else and to be honest at some point I didn't really mind, she js a really decent woman but now I have come to understand that we only see each other as Boss and secretary and nothing more, and it works so well for us...one of the many reasons I could never fire her like I did the others before her.
"A cup of coffee and painkillers would do for now" I answered, sighing softly as I plopped into my seat. If the trip tonight wasn’t in the picture I wouldn’t be so bothered about the headache, after it is quite normal to work with headaches, but being on air for at least 2 hours with this killer headache is going to be a battle.
"Right away" she chirped before turning to leave.
I glanced at my gold wristwatch on my wrist making a mental note to ask Leah if Sienna had resumed work, it was already thirty minutes past eight, she should know better than to be late.
A soft knock came from the door before it was pushed open and Leah walked in with a tray in hand. Less than five minutes, always on top of everything.
"Two pills should do the trick and then a cup of coffee made just how you love it," she said carefully placing the tray on my table.
"Thank you" I appreciated as I pulled the tray towards myself.
"Just doing my job, Sir" She beamed.
I nodded before speaking up again, "Sorry I didn’t really grab what you said about the meeting with Ethan Carr"
"Yes right" She chirped standing upright.
"Everything is set for tonight, your plane is ready and so is the car that will take you and the marketing executive to the hotel. The meeting is scheduled for 8am tomorrow, so I have arranged for a car that would come pick you both up by 7:30 and then from there back to the airport so you both can fly back on time" She recited so easily.
"But sir, there is a little problem" she added before I could respond to her.
"What's the issue?"
"Sir, I was informed this morning that you made a change to the marketing team. Moving Mercy to the IT department has left a vacancy for a marketing executive as that was Mercy's role" She paused searching my face as if she was looking for some kind of confirmation before continuing.
I nodded urging her to go on, "Someone would have to take over from her, and unfortunately before the end of the day because the papers prepared clearly state you will be coming with your marketing executive and we currently don't have one"
"And who said we don't have one?" I raised my eyebrow watching her, she stared at me with pure confusion but there was a hidden look of suspicion in her eyes that made me want to laugh. She knows I can never make a decision without a proper plan.
"Of course we do" she joked just as the door flew open, a panicked and tired-looking Sienna strolling in. A flicker of concern crossed my heart but it disappeared just as it came, as it should.
She looked between Leah and me muttering incoherently to herself a little confusion on her face like she was contemplating between walking further in or just going back.
"I will just come back when you guys are done" she finally spoke up as she retreated.
"No way, please come in. You are my 'girlfriend' you have every right to be here" I said with extra sarcasm as I said the word girlfriend, Even Sienna couldn't hide her discomfort.
"Leah, prepare all necessary documents my girlfriend here will need as she will be my plus one for tonight's meeting " I smirked not missing the way Sienna's eyes widened when I mentioned the meeting, typical of her to act like I didn't mention it in the message I sent her this morning.
"Sir?..." Leah stuttered.
"You heard me right, Leah. My dearest here is our new marketing executive effective from today" I smirked loving the way the tension in the room thickened at my words.
The fear and confusion on both their faces each meant different things and that just assured me that everything is going just how I want it to go.
