"She must be in her room. Brittany is always shy around strangers. She doesn't like to stick around when visitors come," Mum quickly answered before I could even recover from the shock of the question.
I believe I must have properly hidden my shock, but Julian, on the other hand, made it very clear that he didn't expect Mum to even speak up. He was probably expecting her to lash out or even expose my lies, but I guess Mum is smarter than I have always given her credit for.
