15I let out an irritated grunt. Got down on my knees. The damn bag slipped from shoulder to wrist. It slapped the floor in front of me. Dust swirled upward. I sneezed, rattling the paper in my hand. I sneezed again. The expulsions of air propelled the lightest-weight wooden pieces away from me. After a fruitless minute trying to corral them, I wised up. I unzipped my bag and stuffed the note I’d written to Latoya inside. I jammed the berry-colored leather between my knees. Leaning forward, I used both arms to sweep the wooden pieces closer. Good thing one set of pudgy females wore red smocks, the other purple. Stuffing each small doll back inside the correct next-bigger one went quickly.
