I fought the urge to sneak down to her room. She shared a wall with Lila, and it would be much too risky. So, I settled for texting her back:
Me: Yes, baby girl. Just needing to work off some excess energy…I can’t stop thinking about you.
Clio: I can’t stop thinking about you either. Today was amazing.
Me: That’s an understatement. Don’t think I’m done with you.
Those last words couldn’t be truer, but I knew there was going to come a time in the not-too-distant future that I would have no choice but to be done with her. I tamped down the streak of panic that ran through me at the thought and returned to my phone, typing quickly before I decided against my idea.
Me: Hey, I know you have a surf lesson tomorrow, but don’t make any plans…I have a surprise for you.
