“Three years ago, I overheard my mum and dad having a conversation when I passed near their bedroom door one fateful night”, rambled Elsie. It was a secretive discussion so their voices were so calm. I hid myself behind their door to listen attentively to what they were saying.
My mum said to Daddy, "I really feel guilty whenever I think of my parents. I wish to meet my family once again and apologize to them for the mistake that I made some years ago".
What sort of mistake did you make? exclaimed my daddy. Relax dear, I'll tell you everything, Mom said as she rested her head on Daddy's chest. “You are supposed to know everything about me, but you have to promise me that no one would ever hear them”, said my mummy with a soft tone to which daddy kept her a promise as she wished.
“I was raised under a Nigerian and British parentage. My mother, Destiny, was a Nigerian who met my dad in Dublin where she studied. They've been together throughout her stay in Dublin. When she graduated, she had to forgo everything she met there and go back to her homeland.
She was the only female child in her family who had the privilege to gain a scholarship which made her study abroad. My daddy decided to follow her to her country and marry her before returning with her to England to meet his family.
When my mom's family realized that my daddy intended to marry their daughter, they asked him to send his relatives to complete the marriage process according to their culture which my dad did exactly so. After the marriage, Daddy and Mummy stayed in England. They lived very happily and had enough time for each other. When my mother got pregnant, she told my dad that she wanted to go back to Nigeria to have her baby.
My dad couldn't say no because he loved her deeply and couldn't bear to hurt her. In Nigeria, I was born and raised there for six years and two months because my mother died when I was just one year old. My daddy has been the one who asked my grandmother in Nigeria to raise me after the death of my mom.
When I turned six, my daddy came to Nigeria and pleaded with my mom's family to allow him to take me away to England. He was very sure that every child would prefer being with their biological parents. They agreed on the condition that Daddy would send me to Nigeria during vacations to meet my mom's family and feel the love of home but up to now I've never met any of them.
'You know when I first met you at the university'? my mom continued. I told my dad about you and your proposal to me. He told me to be very careful and have a healthy relationship. When I graduated and you decided to come and marry me, my dad was so eager to meet his to-be in-law but when you arrived, I realized that my dad wasn't really happy to see you. Perhaps, you weren't what he was expecting.
That day when you left our place, my dad advised me to stay away from you because you may not be the best person to stay with for the rest of my life. I disagreed with my dad and since then, I have always had problems with daddy. It was finally that I decided to run away from home to wherever you took me to and you brought me here, Texas, where I know nobody but you. I'm only glad that you married me and you still treat me better, but I feel guilty when I remember what I did to Daddy”.
“Don't worry, you're safe with me”, my dad replied as he took my mom's hands and kissed her. I was excited to see them happy.
My dad, Robin, leaned on mommy and I left them immediately because I didn't want them to know that I was watching them.
Since then, nothing has been the same, mommy found out that Daddy was cheating on her with a very rich woman and sometimes he didn't even come back to the house when he left in the morning till a week later or more. I have never known what was called peace of mind from that time because my parents were always having a duel.”
After Elsie had told the police officer about all she knew, she was told about her mother's condition and that her dad escaped. The poor girl couldn't hold her tears. She felt very unlucky as she stared at Anne. She didn't understand why she must be the one to suffer the mistakes she never made.
The police then guarantee to take her to her mother to meet her at the hospital. Miss Eugenia, who was already crying due to the sad story Elsie told, also suggested that she would go with them to the hospital. Anne also joined them. (opted in).
At the hospital, the doctor assigned to care for Janet told the police that Janet's condition was getting better.
When Janet saw her daughter, she burst into tears and Elsie did the same.
Elsie hugged her mother gently because she wasn't very strong at the moment. Her mother vowed to make it up to her. Elsie cried tears of joy.
In the meantime, Miss Eugenia requested that Elsie should stay with her until her mother gets discharged. Janet accepted her request and allowed Elsie to follow Miss Eugenia to her house. At Miss Eugenia's house, Elsie was treated very well with much care and eventually became very close to Henry within a space of one week.
Henry and Elsie normally sat on a stuffing chair in Miss Eugenia's garden to chat, hug each other, and encourage each other. That was when Elsie realized that Henry was very good at singing, dancing, and acting. Elsie loved everything about Henry and grew very fond of him. Likewise Henry.
