Chapter 1

1700 Words
【 Chapter 1 】 I used to be a weeb—nothing more, nothing less. Just a speck of dust among millions of others. A boring, insignificant life, as meaningless as my own name… which I can’t even remember anymore. Who I was in my past life, I don’t know. I only have fragments. I remember loving firearms and daggers. I remember always being small and agile. And I loved anime—Classroom of the Elite was at the top of my list. I never thought I’d one day reincarnate without even knowing how I died. Pathetic. I’m pathetic. But the most pathetic part? I reincarnated as Airi Sakura, basically an invisible NPC in the eyes of everyone. I never paid attention to this shy, reserved girl who was terrified of socializing—mostly because she was exactly like me. She had no friends. I had none. She was invisible, just like I was. When I skipped class, nobody noticed, and when I showed up, everyone stared as if I were a stranger. That’s why I never cared about her. At least she eventually connected with someone, at least someone noticed her… unlike me. 【 A Few Weeks After My Awakening 】 I was sitting at my desk between Wataru Ijūin and Ken Sudō. On my left, I could see Horikita and Ayanokoji. It was the first day of school, and I already knew every face. It was insane how faithful they were to the anime. I was impressed and fascinated—each of them radiated something unique. We were introduced to our homeroom teacher, Sae Chabashira. Honestly, she looked way more like a bimbo in real life than in the anime. She explained the school’s system and the points we’d receive. The students were already celebrating. Bunch of peasants. Ah, right. I haven’t properly introduced myself—how rude. I’m Airi Sakura, Class 1-D. And my goal is simple: survive this hellhole. Classes went on, and the class fell apart almost immediately. Some were reading manga on their tablets, others were chatting loudly. It looked more like a marketplace than a classroom. What a bunch of peasants. After class, groups of students left happily in groups. Only Ayanokoji and Horikita stayed behind for a moment, but they soon left too. I pulled out my terminal and checked the cameras in the classroom. In my previous life, I loved hacking just for fun. It started with stealing my neighbors’ Wi-Fi, but once I realized how far I could go, I couldn’t stop. I tried several times to hack the cameras but failed miserably. Annoyed and watching the time fly, I gave up and returned to my dorm. Once home, I cleaned my room and immediately went back to hacking. Then it hit me—an idea. A perfect one. I spent the entire night struggling, but it was worth it. I created a spyware program that could easily hack devices and cameras around the school. It would help me a LOT. Obviously. I had to become as invisible as possible. No one should ever get the idea to approach me—or manipulate me. I spent the whole night training for my next plan: living my weeb life peacefully. I practiced lock-picking, squeezing into tight spaces, and using my agility as efficiently as possible. My new goal? Earn money—because with my grades, I definitely wouldn’t shine. 【 End of the Month 】 The end of the month came quickly, and those peasants seriously thought they’d receive points. Then Chabashira-sensei hit them with the truth—something obvious to a weeb like me. I watched Horikita and Ayanokoji, both unsurprised. When the break started, I did my usual routine. I’d gotten used to it. I noticed a crowd gathering, some pushing around, so I approached a group of students chatting. I brushed past a guy from Class C and stole his terminal without him even noticing. I could’ve taken his friends’ too, but a client had asked for information on him specifically. Once far enough, I opened his terminal and installed my spyware. All his data—videos, images, conversations—would be sent directly to me in real time. Invisible as always, I walked back toward the group, slipped behind him, and placed his terminal back in his pocket exactly where I’d taken it. This was my routine. My way of earning money. I created an anonymous website on the school’s dark web, and I earned more points every single day. My Prices: Info on a student: 50 points Confidential documents: 100 points Test and exam answers: 100 points Stalking a student: 200 points Sure, my business isn’t exactly legal—but at least I won’t run out of money anytime soon. Not only thanks to my website, but because when I install my spyware, I can hear everything the owner of the device says. And I regularly steal and clone point cards to siphon points without being caught. Don’t think I sit comfortably behind a screen earning easy money—absolutely not. I sneak into the teachers’ lounge to steal what I need and sell it online. When a crazy client wants dirt on a student, I have to pick locks and break in to gather information. I even learned to make small mics and mini cameras, and to hack the school’s cameras. A thief’s life. But it’s for survival, and I don’t have a choice. At least my plan is working—students from all classes, including my own, use my site. I’ve kept my anonymity perfectly, acting as the quiet, invisible girl in class. Neither Horikita nor Ayanokoji has ever spared me a glance. Same for everyone else. But the more famous my website becomes, the more I fear it’ll be exposed. The thought of Nagumo or Horikita-senpai finding it and coming after me terrifies me. 【 The Next Day 】 I was in the library—not because I wanted to study, but because I had to steal two seniors’ terminals. I watched my targets when a sudden argument erupted nearby. I immediately recognized the voices of Ken Sudō, Kushida Kikyo, and Horikita Suzune. Then silence. Sudō must’ve left. 【 AYANOKOJI KIYOTAKA 】 The study plan was a failure. Suzune and Sudō couldn’t get along at all. Eventually, the exams came, but something was off. There were fewer and fewer students in the library. Students from our class—and others—looked strangely confident and stopped studying altogether. When the exams were over, the whole class was ecstatic. They’d somehow gotten the test answers. 【 SAKURA AIRI 】 Something Kushida didn’t know: those seniors didn’t give her the exam answers out of kindness. She bought them—from my website. Just like in the anime where she gets answers for her own goals… except this time, I was her supplier. An annoying pest—but a loyal customer. My site was becoming a pillar of the school, and the principal hadn’t noticed a thing. When the results were posted, I found my name among the top scores. 89/100 in every subject. I’m not as smart as Ayanokoji—I can’t purposely aim for average scores. I need high grades, because without cheating I’d be stuck at 50 or 60. Chabashira-sensei praised us, clearly shocked. Then she announced Sudō’s expulsion, and the class fell silent. Kikyo performed her crocodile-tears act, and Ayanokoji left followed by Suzune. I watched them, knowing exactly what was coming. 【 Evening 】 That evening, I had to follow a girl because—and I quote— “Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating with his friend.” He paid me for live updates, so I did my job. Nobody notices me. Nobody looks for me. That’s my advantage. After gathering enough evidence, I sent it to my client. Verdict: Yes, she was cheating. But not with his friend—just a guy from her class. When I finally decided to go home, I stumbled upon Ayanokoji and Kushida. They didn’t see me. Kushida stepped closer to him. I knew this scene. I quickly pulled out my terminal and hid behind a tree. From where I was standing, I had a perfect view. I recorded everything. With this video, I could threaten her—pressure her. Obstacle “Kikyo” officially crossed off my list. Still many more to go before I can finally relax. I must endure. 【 A Few Days Later 】 Chabashira-sensei informed the class that three Class C students had testified against Sudō. Of course. I saw it coming—just like in the anime. But I refused to play the same role as the original Sakura. So when the infamous “fight” came up, I quietly helped Sudō without raising suspicion. Sudō: “This is bullshit! It was self-defense! They were jealous I’m a starter on the team—that’s why they came after me!” Sae: “But we have no proof. If someone had witnessed the scene, it would change everything.” As expected, Kushida was the first to react. Kushida: “Listen! Did anyone see what happened? Does someone know what really went on?” Everyone stared around. I lowered my eyes, nervously fidgeting with my fingers. The real Sakura and I aren’t so different… except I know the future of this class and the dangers hidden in this school. Koenji: “Honestly, it would’ve been better if you were expelled, redhead. No one wants to defend someone so unrefined.” Sudō snapped. Sudō: “WHAT!?” Oh boy. He’s mad. Hirata stood up. Hirata: “Calm down!” Sae: “In one week, there will be a meeting with Class C and the student council. Depending on the outcome, points will be deducted, and Sudō will face further punishment.” The class’s anger toward Sudō grew even more. And what came next was unknown—I had already altered the story. I didn’t have a cute little blog pretending to be a normal girl. I had Sakura’s camera, but I never used it. Things were starting to get complicated. I needed to be more careful. Surpass the person we were yesterday.
