Chapter Two

"Miss Alva, wishes Old Mrs. Joseph longevity and prosperity, presenting a pair of jade bracelets!" "Skyfall Group’s Chairman wishes Mrs. Joseph a long life, presenting a golden necklace!" "Mr. Clement Harrison from Leinco wishes Mrs. Joseph longevity, presenting a South African diamond!" In front of the Crown Hotel, luxury cars filled the parking lot. Distinguished guests arrived to congratulate, each bringing lavish gifts. As the banquet hall filled up, whispers floated around. "Old Mrs. Joseph's birthday banquet has gathered so many esteemed guests, and the younger generation is full of talented individuals. Old Mrs. Joseph is truly blessed." "Indeed, just look at Old Mrs. Joseph inviting Mr. Harrison from Leinco. What an immense honor!" "If the Joseph family can establish a connection with the Harrison family, the Joseph family's future will be secured!" Listening to the chatter around her, Old Mrs. Joseph, leaning on her dragon-headed cane, smiled contentedly, her eyes gleaming with pride. Previously, everyone had said that Old Mr. Joseph was well-connected, but he wasn't good at business. Since Old Mr. Joseph's passing, Old Mrs. Joseph had taken over the family business, and the Joseph Group had flourished. Now, everyone hailed her as a female hero. But Old Mrs. Joseph's ambitions didn't stop there. Today's birthday banquet was not only a chance for her to show her face but also an opportunity to connect with the Harrison family. Just as Old Mrs. Joseph was feeling satisfied, another voice joined in from outside. "The Joseph family's son-in-law Isaac, wishes Old Mrs. Joseph a long and healthy life, presenting a dose of cold medicine!" Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. Joseph's face darkened, and the surrounding guests burst into laughter. "On Old Mrs. Joseph's big day, Isaac actually gave her a dose of cold medicine?" "Haha, that's hilarious! This son-in-law is truly something. How dare he?" "They say Molly married a useless husband. Looks like it's true." Feeling embarrassed by the laughter around her, Molly wished she could find a hole to hide in. "Molly, what's wrong?" Isaac asked, puzzled. Molly snapped, "What's wrong? Didn't I tell you I didn't need you to buy that gift? I gave you cash!" Isaac explained, "Today is Grandma's eightieth birthday. Cash alone isn't sincere enough." Molly was close to losing her mind. "Even if it's insincere, it's still better than giving cold medicine like you did!" Isaac smirked, "Molly, you're mistaken. This cold medicine of mine is special. Many people can't even buy it, no matter how much money they have..." Before Isaac could finish, Alva sneered, "What kind of magical cold medicine is this? Does it make you immune to all poisons after taking it?" Isaac nodded, "Indeed, it does." The people around stared at Isaac as if he were a fool. Was this guy really that dumb, or was he intentionally causing trouble? But it didn't make sense. Everyone knew that the Joseph Group was under Old Mrs. Joseph's control. Any family member wanting to succeed in the company had to curry favor with her. Moreover, this year, the position of marketing director was vacant, which was a lucrative opportunity. There were rumors that the position would be filled by either Molly or Alva. Now, with Isaac's behavior, Molly's chance for that position seemed bleak. At that moment, Old Mrs. Joseph approached with a stern expression, walking over from a distance. The younger Joseph family members respectfully stepped aside. Molly hurried forward, saying, "Grandma, we rushed here, and Isaac accidentally brought the wrong gift." "Give me some time, and I'll go back to prepare a new one." Alva sneered, "With so many distinguished guests here, are we supposed to wait for you to start the banquet again?" Molly exclaimed, "That's not what I meant..." "Enough." Old Mrs. Joseph waved her hand, interrupting, "I appreciate your intention to wish me a happy birthday. As for that cold medicine, take it back with you. I don't need it." "Also, there's no place for you at the main table. Sit at the table by the entrance." "Alva, help me over there. Let's start the banquet." Alva nodded and quickly stepped forward to assist Old Mrs. Joseph, giving Molly a smug look before leaving. The main table was occupied by those closest to Old Mrs. Joseph. In previous years, Molly would have had a seat there, but now, being relegated to the table by the entrance spoke volumes. As Molly watched Old Mrs. Joseph's retreating figure, she bit her lip, feeling aggrieved. Since her grandfather's passing, their branch of the family had fallen out of favor. They were forced to move out of the main family compound, and Molly wasn't involved in the main business of the Joseph Group. Molly had hoped to leave a good impression on Old Mrs. Joseph during this birthday celebration and perhaps advance her position in the company. But now, everything had been ruined by Isaac. "Miss Molly, here's your cold medicine. Take it," a waiter said, returning the box of medicine. Feeling the scrutiny of those around her, Molly felt utterly embarrassed. Isaac, however, casually accepted the box and chuckled, "Grandma doesn't know what's valuable. All her junky birthday gifts put together aren't worth as much as my cold medicine." "That's enough!" Molly glared at Isaac, her anger flaring. "Isaac, don't you realize how important this birthday banquet is for us? I entrusted you with buying a gift, hoping you could help me out a bit like a man, instead of being stuck in the kitchen all day!" "I wanted you to leave a good impression on Grandma, to have her help you find a good job. When will you start showing some ambition? Some pride?" Isaac was taken aback. Ambition? No one understood ambition better than him. He had built the Underworld from scratch, becoming its ruler, thanks to his grand ambitions. As Lord Underworld, he commanded millions of underworld denizens, with seven archdemons and twenty-four demon lords under his control, governing global economy and military power. Money, power, women, even countries - with just a word from him, he could have them all! But he didn't care about any of that anymore. Now, his eyes were only on Molly. He had thought that as long as he was with Molly, living a simple life would be enough for happiness. That's why he had no interest in the power struggles within the Joseph family. But it seemed Molly had different ideas. Seeing Molly still angry, Isaac said calmly, "Darling, if you want, I can make you the CEO of the Joseph Group right away."
