Chapter Four

1137 Words
When they returned home from the birthday banquet, it was already nine o'clock in the evening. As Molly walked in, she saw her parents sitting on the living room couch, their faces grim. "Dad, Mom, what brings you here?" Molly asked. Kennedy Joseph's voice was stern. "What, we can't come here?" Feeling awkward, Molly replied, "Dad, that's not what I meant. I meant, why didn't you let me know beforehand?" Kennedy slammed the table. "Then why didn't you let us know about taking on the A8 plot of land?" "Molly, what were you thinking! I don't need to elaborate on what kind of person Eden Wallis is, right? Many experienced people in the family didn't dare to take it on, yet you insisted on showing off, didn't you?" Molly felt extremely wronged. "Dad, I just don't want to live like this anymore. This is a good opportunity for me to make a name for myself in front of Grandma. If I can complete this deal..." Kennedy sneered, "Make a name for yourself? Of course you'll make a name for yourself if you can complete it, but what if you can't?" Molly’s mother Gemma interjected, "Molly, don't be upset with your dad's harsh words. He's just worried about you." "Ever since your grandpa passed away, life in our family has been deteriorating day by day. But at least you have a stable job at Joseph Group. Rain or shine, you won't starve." "Now, by not discussing taking on such a big deal with us beforehand, if you fail, you won't be able to stay at Joseph Group." "If you lose your job, who will pay the mortgage? Where will our living expenses come from?" Listening to Gemma, Isaac standing aside chuckled inwardly. After all the talk, these two were not worried about Molly; they were worried about not getting money from Molly every month after she loses her job. Seeing Molly looking distressed, Isaac spoke up, "Dad, Mom, you don't need to worry. There shouldn't be any problem for Molly to complete this deal with her abilities." As soon as Isaac spoke, it was like lighting a powder keg. Gemma started scolding Isaac angrily, "As a family, do you think you have the right to interrupt?" "A useless bum who just lazes around at home, what do you know about business? Do you know Eden Wallis? Do you know what kind of person he is?" Isaac shook his head. "I don't know." Who was Eden Wallis, garbage, and yet he thought he could talk to Isaac? But if Isaac wanted him to cooperate with Molly, it was just a phone call away. Seeing Isaac admit he didn't know Eden Wallis, Gemma sneered, "A useless bum who only knows how to do laundry and cook, you better leave now!" Isaac didn't argue back. He just glanced at Molly, noticing her troubled expression, and said gently, "Darling, don't be upset. I'll go make you some soup." Watching Isaac leave, Molly felt helpless. Earlier at the birthday banquet, Isaac had promised to help her. Molly had thought Isaac had finally come to his senses and would share some of the burden with her on this matter. Who knew that now, with her mother scolding him like this, he didn't even react. He was truly useless! Always doing laundry and cooking, how could she have chosen such an uninspiring husband! After Isaac left, Gemma said softly to Molly, "Molly, it's good that you want to improve everyone's lives." "But there are many ways to change our lives, and you don't have to choose the hardest and most tiring one." Molly looked puzzled. "Mom, what do you mean? I don't understand." Gemma smiled and said, "Your grandmother wants you to get the A8 plot of land, isn't it to cooperate with the Harrison family?" Molly nodded, "Yes." "And did you agree to this to make your grandmother happy?" Gemma asked. "Yes," Molly replied. Gemma clapped her hands, "In that case, I have found another way for you. It can not only make our Joseph family cooperate with the Harrison family but also make your grandmother happy. You don't have to work so hard." Molly furrowed her brows, sensing that what Gemma was about to say probably wasn't good news. Seeing Molly's silence, Gemma continued, "Do you remember Master Clement from the Harrison family?" "He just called me and said he's taken a liking to you. As long as you agree, he's willing to marry you." "What!" Molly exclaimed, astonished. "How could that be? I already have a husband!" Gemma looked disdainful. "What husband? Isaac, that useless man? Is he even worthy of being your husband?" "Molly, Mr. Harrison is deeply in love with you. We've even discussed the bride price." "Mr. Harrison said that as long as you agree to marry him, the cooperation between the Harrison family and the Joseph family is set, and in the future, you'll be a lady of the Harrison family. You won't have to work outside for those few dollars anymore." "As for Isaac, you can just divorce him, can't you? I know you haven't let him into your bedroom these years, right?" Molly never expected that the other option Gemma mentioned would be for her to marry Mr. Harrison! Although Molly didn't particularly like Isaac on ordinary days, after so many years, she still had feelings for him. Molly said in a low voice, "Mom, Isaac hasn't done anything to wrong me. I don't want to divorce him, and besides, marrying him was also Grandpa's wish." Kennedy, who had been silent all along, couldn't help but angrily interject, "Whether you divorce or not is not up to you to decide. It's up to us, and not you!" "Besides, your grandpa has been dead for so many years, and you've married Isaac. It can be considered as fulfilling your grandpa's wish!" Without giving Molly a chance to speak, Kennedy stood up and said coldly, "Molly, we've never forced you to do anything since you were a child, but this time you must listen to us." "You have a week. If you're unwilling to divorce that useless Isaac, don't blame me, your father, for using force." After saying this, Kennedy left the living room directly. Gemma hurriedly followed suit. After the two left, Molly felt a cramp in her abdomen. She held her stomach, sitting paralyzed on the couch. Just then, Isaac brought a steaming bowl of soup to her. "Darling, have some, it's good for your health." Molly took a sip, and as the soup entered her body, the pain in her abdomen eased considerably. Whether from pain or other emotions, tears welled up in Molly's eyes as she said, "Isaac, can't you be a little more capable? If you continue like this, we'll end up divorced!"
