CHAPTER 7 GRACE I was so warm, I didn’t want to wake up. There were times I thought I was dead, but then the pain would rear its ugly head. I remembered waking up and someone being there to lift me up so I could drink water, but then I’d fall into the darkness again. Squeezing my eyes shut, it felt like my lids were made of sandpaper. My mouth felt like the Sahara Desert. “Grace,” a voice called out softly. It was a sound I thought I’d never hear again.
