CHAPTER SIXTEEN Melanie drove to the hardware shop and swept through the front doors like a modern-day ‘Cruella Deville,’ fur coat flapping behind her. I’d parked my car around the corner and left my vehicle. Loitering around the sports shop thirty feet down, I watched from my vantage point, hiding behind a rack of shoes, which had been set up on the sidewalk in front of the shop. It wasn’t long before Melanie and Bobby both emerged. They scanned the streets, but in their highly agitated state didn’t see me. The duo engaged in a heated discussion, standing next to the work truck before they both climbed in and drove away. I waited until they had reversed out of the parking space and roared up the road, before turning around and sprinting to my Jeep, leaving a startled sales girl gaping.
