Daylight found me waiting for Chief Marshall in the parking lot. By 6 am the clearing at Cascade Falls Reserve had been cordoned off with police tape. The car park was full with squad cars, the chief’s Ford Ranger 4x4, my Jeep and a local reporter’s small economy car. The journo hovered at the edge of the parking lot, where the police had denied access to the public on all the walk trails in the area, trying to catch my eye.
