The morning sunlight came without warning.
The pain shooting down to my bones never ceased to alarm me as I dragged myself through the twists and turns of the dewy forest floor. Time had no meaning to me, the second my eyes blacked out my limbs followed, leaving my mind to wander into the depths of it’s own torture chambers thinking about everything I had endured.
Memories flashed as fast as the whips that had snapped against my skin. Each strand of memories made me see the signs that I could have seen this pain coming at me at any given moment. After the entire year of memories rushed into my skull the rage hit my once dulled emotions causing me to faint.
By the time I woke two days had already passed without me being found by the search team they surely sent out. Every joint cracked as I rose from the cold muddy ground. Loud panting came from behind. when I had finally stood enough to lean against a large pine tree. A slimy red liquid ran down my cheek.
I cracked my neck upward to see a massive set of fangs hovering over my face dropping even more blood stained drool to splatter on what little clothing I had left. My best friend and only companion stood well above my reach. All I could manage to ask was “... Help” the cerberus yanked me by the collar of my shirt, throwing me onto his broad shoulders before dashing to the nearest city.
Chp 3: a new world
Bright lights blurred past until Jeffery came to a stop. We were sitting in a large smooth building that was empty for the most part other than a few crates and wooden boards. I sat laid on the dusty floor to rest while Jeffery did laps around the surrounding walls. He was as silent as a mouse just like he was taught in guarding camp, I couldn’t be prouder of the pup.
A day had passed and all my wounds had healed completely. Both I and Jeffery were going to starve if we didn’t go to this town’s market soon. My eyes had to adjust to the morning light while I walked down a paved path unlike I had ever seen before. All the buildings were made of stone that had been smoothed out, a new concept I hadn’t yet seen.
There were few people on the street but many more vehicles on the roads. Almost everyone had a small glowing brick up to the ear on in their hand, such a weird device.
I reached a market, finally, the doors moved on their own! I rushed in and up to the worker at their front desk “Ma’am may I please have any scraps you can spare?” The woman looked at me in horror before rushing to the back of her stall.
The shoppers around me started whispering while I waited for a reply about food. A woman strided toward me from her seat wearing a thick red dress, she reached down and yanked my hand, having me follow behind. We walked right out the doors. “Wait! I need my portions!” I planted myself on the spot in protest.
“Why are you out here in broad daylight?! Where are your Kin?” her voice was shaking “I promise I will bring you some food, okay?!” I quickly caught up to her to hold her hand. We walked past a few blocks before talking again.
“Hey miss, can we eat now?” After a few steps she was able to reply.
“Not right now sweety…. Can you take me to your home? Will anyone be there?” she had a wry smile trying to act like a proper adult. I knew my dog would be there so I nodded and continued back to the house Jeffery had claimed.
