Finding Devin

1009 Words
I followed the mate bond with the truck, and as I did, I felt the continued pain and torture affecting my mate growing stronger. His Wolf whined and whimpered, and even though our bond has never been solidified, I felt everything. I just had to get to him.y mind couldn't even register anything else. Ava pushed and wrestled, wanting to shift now and simply run to him. I tried to reason with her, he was too far, the truck would get us to him much more quickly. She struggled, feeling his pain through the bond was all consuming. "A few more miles Ava. Then we will find him!" I spoke to her out loud, burying the gas pedal. The road turned to dirt and gravel flew from my tires. I didn't slow down, terrified that he would be killed before I made it to him. I had no idea where the bond was leading me. The woods around us thickened, and the road became rougher and rougher. Finally, I felt the pain slip away, and knew Devin had lost consciousness. I prayed I wouldn't be too late, but had to slow down even more as the road became no more than a four wheeler trail. Mud was now churning under the wheels of the old Chevy pickup, and even with four wheel drive, I didn't think I could take the truck much further. Now Ava! I told her as I shut the engine down and whipped open my door. We shredded our clothes as I became the wolf before hitting the ground. Ava let out a growl so fierce, it sounded as though the ground shook beneath our paws and we were running. Running with a speed I had never felt before, the trees simply blurring around us as we flew by them. The bond was quiet, but we had his scent now, and a clear path to follow. There had been no attempt made to hide it. Obviously, my husband thought I was too beaten, too weak to escape him. He was very wrong. I felt stronger than I had ever felt in my life. His reign of terror ended now. I was thirsty for his blood, and Ava imagined ripping her teeth and claws into him with a vengeance as we ran. I craved his death and the safety of my mate nearly equally at this point. suddenly, we could hear the sounds of people, the noise of a generator ahead, so we slowed down. Ava wanted to go in, and just rip apart anyone who stood between us and our mate, but I fought for control. I knew we needed a better plan. It was a hunting cabin of sorts, not very large, with a driveway seeming to head off in the opposite direction from where I had come up to it. There appeared to be five men there, four vehicles, all ones I recognized as wolves my husband invited to all of his get togethers. Apparently, he had a crew of sorts The cabin appeared to have a small stone foundation, and all my senses told me Devin was being held there. I thought hard of a solution, a way to get at least some of the men to leave. There was no sign of my husband, he must still be inside the cabin. Him, I needed to end. I craved it more than I had craved anything. But the rest, I simply wanted gone. They didn't need to die for their poor choice in leadership, and taking on six wolves when we had never fought before disnt seem very smart. Ava loudly disagreed, claiming we were muchstronger than we thought, and could easily do things her way. I didn't share her confidence. Suddenly, I had an idea. All these wolves had children at the school. If they received an urgent call, saying they were needed at the school right away, they would go. Most were not as heartless as my husband, and actually cared for their pups. Now, I fought with Ava, who reluctantly allowed me to shift back. I crouched, staying hidden, and carefully unzipped the tiny pouch I had tied to myself earlier. It was specially made to not be lost during shifting, and held my money, keys, and a small never used prepaid cellphone I had had with my hidden escape items. I turned it on, quickly making sure it was on silent. I dialed the school's number. When the secretary answered, I said the first thing I could think of that would force all parents to be called. "There is a bomb in the school! You won't find it, I've hidden it well!" I loudly whispered into the phone, and then hung up. Now we just needed to wait. I hoped and prayed my plan worked quickly, and that my mate was left alive. I could feel his heart rate through the quiet bond, and knew he was still unconscious. Minutes ticked by, first ten, then fifteen. I was beginning to think my call had been brushed off as a prank. Then, through the brush, I saw the two men closest to me reaching for their phones at the same time, and I held my breath in anticipation. There was a lot of excited talking between all the men outside and soon they all began to move toward their vehicles. My plan was working! My husband was the only one who made no move to leave, His scowl was apparent, as he obviously thought very little of the men's decision to go to their pups. He needed to be the most important person to anyone near him, of course. Ava let out a low grumble, and I let her slowly shift us back to wolf. It was time for that man to pay his debts, and he owed every drop of blood he had on him. I crouched low, and kept my eyes trained on him as the last of his friends drove out of the driveway. it was time.
