Chapter 5: My wolf likes your wolf

1153 Words
Sin’s POV She had her back turned to me. From what I could tell her height put the top of her head at my chest level. We had the perfect height difference for cuddling. Her hair fell to her shoulders but because her curls were really tight, I bet that it was way longer. She was only wearing a t-shirt so her legs were on full display. Her calves were well defined, and the definition was made more apparent as the moonlight reflected on her brown skin. I was thinking that maybe she was a warrior, which would explain why she was able to run as fast as she did. “You can turn around now,” I said to her after walking closer to her. I wanted to get a better look at her face with her standing close to me. She slowly turned around and I was stunned to see her green eyes. It was almost like emeralds had been placed in her eyes, they were that pretty. They were almost glowing as the moon reflected off from them. She was looking at me up and down. I would have thought that she would be fixated on my abs like most females were. I even flexed them a bit to make sure she took notice of them. Suddenly she stopped and looked me squarely in the eyes. “Why were you following me?” She asked with a slight tilt of her head. “I don’t really know. My wolf likes your wolf,” I said honestly. I hadn’t been able to come up with a good enough excuse since I didn’t know exactly what I wanted from her so I thought it would be best to be honest, maybe that would make her let her guard down a bit. “What does that have to do with you following me? Do you follow around every female your wolf likes?” She asked crossing her arms in front of her. She was getting defensive and closing up. I had to calm her down or she would definitely walk away. “I-ah…” I pretended to be dumbstruck. This would make her think she was in control of the conversation. I scratched behind my ear shyly and then said. “Only the pretty ones.” I expected her to at least smile at that but she didn’t. She remained in the same closed-off position. “I thought we could get to know each other.” “No thanks,” She said as she made a move to leave by turning around. “The point of the run is to make a pair though,” I said to her in rush to stop her. She turned back to fully face me before saying. “I don’t want a mate though.” I was genuinely dumbstruck now. “Why are you here then?” “A vacation.” She replied leaning forward as if she was telling me a secret that only the two of us were privy to. She then smiled at me and that made my wolf want to keep this conversation going. She had a pretty smile. I, on the other hand, did not want to look any more desperate in front of this female but my wolf seemed to be in control of my emotions more so because it was a full moon, and he didn’t care for keeping up appearances. “I can be your guide then. Nobody knows this packs territory more than me.” I said smoothly. The expression on her face then turned to one of suspicion but I guess she didn’t want to pursue that route of conversation more so she left it alone and the suspicion cleared from her eyes. “You are looking for a mate though.” She replied. “Not really.” I want to follow you. I wanted to add, but I instead added. “I have a proposal for you.” This got her attention cause her eyes lit up brighter. “What is it?” “Since we are both not looking for a mate," I said pointing in between the two of us, "Let’s pair up.” I didn’t know if my plan would work but I wanted to at least get a chance to know more about her. I was curious about what had my wolf following her out of all the other wolves. “Why should I agree to that?” She asked. “If you don’t agree, you are gonna be paired up randomly with other wolves for the whole week. Imagine wasting their time when you can just waste mine alone.” I answered. It wasn’t a good answer but it was the best I could come up with while under pressure. “Why do you care whose time I waste?” She asked rightfully. Why did I care about her wasting other wolves time? Maybe it’s because I was afraid that she wouldn’t be wasting her time and some lucky wolf would snatch her right up. The bigger question is why was my wolf entertaining this. “I don’t know.” I answered honestly. “Let me think about it.” She said. She lifted her head to stare at the night sky before letting out a deep breath after which she then faced me again. “You won’t end up switching on me, right?” “No.” I said shaking my head back and forth. “Okay then, we have a deal.” She replied. She held out her hand for me to shake which I gladly accepted. “I’m Emery.” I couldn’t tell her my real name. “Rodney.” I said giving her my younger brothers name. No matter what my wolf wanted, I didn’t want a mate so I couldn’t risk getting attached, so I lied to give her a reason to hate me when she found out the truth. Maybe then I wouldn't feel less guilty after this whole thing was over. Emery’s POV You know how you can tell that someone is lying without trying to. That’s the feeling I got when ‘Rodney’ told me his name. That should have been the red flag that made me walk away from him, but I went against my better judgement and stayed. With his brown eyes and straight brown hair, he was nice enough to look at so this week wouldn't be too bad with him by my side. His hand was warm as we kept our hands interlocked for longer than was necessary. I wasn't sure if second chance mates felt sparks before marking each other. The topic wasn't one that was written about a lot in books. I gave him a smile which he returned. He had another thing coming if he thought that he could play me and get away with it.
