[***Beep....beep......beep....***] "Sisi,Sisi your phone is ringing" Tasah said.
"Dammit, Tasah, you have been my friend for 2 years now and yet, you haven't realized that I don't answer calls early in the morning especially when am not done with my yoga practice for the day" Sisi said from her cobra pose at the corner of her room.
" Fine I will just pick it up, hello" tasah said.
" Hello,am I speaking with Sisi Cooper" a masculine baritone voice said.
"Ehmm.... this is Tasah not Sisi"
" And where might Sisi be?" He asked.
" Who is asking"
" Pardon my manner's this is kunle Williams on the line and am a friend"
" Really, I haven't heard of that name before and trust me I know all Sisi friends, or are you.. hold on a sec.." Tasah cover's the mouth piece with her hands and turns to the direction of Sisi room.
" Who is kunle" she whispered with a hand gestures.
"Oooh Tasah", Sisi exhale with annoyance, stood up and went into the living room.
" What is it"
"Noo, don't give me that look, you are telling me who this kunle guy is" she said forgetting to whisper.
"He is the guy I told you about"
" Oh the carpenter from your office that was hitting on you" Tasah said with glee
" No, Tasah you are so bad at guessing. It's the weirdo".
" The weirdo", Tasah said with a confused look. " Okay, it's the rude guy, the one that wanted to use a grown up lady to teach a lesson".
"Tasah! , You are shouting" Sisi said, covering her mouth,
"Beside he is still on the phone you know. Give the phone to me.
" Hello, kunle Williams what is it and how did you get my number?"
"Hi, Sisi Cooper, nice hearing from you. How are you doing?"
" That's don't answer my questions".
"It doesn't change the fact that I have it, beside I thought we are on neutral ground, having already apologized".
" Apologizing don't mean we are friends".
" I see but it's makes me a weirdo?". Sisi rube's her forehead in agitation.
[*Can't this guy give up and leave me alone*] she takes a deep breath and decide to change the conversation.
"How is my trouble shooter doing?"she said.
" Trouble shooter" he asked confused.
" You mean Sonia ....oh my God". Kunle threw back his head and roared with laughter.
" What a name" he said.
" Well since we didn't exactly start off on good terms, the name fits.
" I figured, she should be fine".
" Why should be, isn't she with you?"
" She is with my mom".
" I see... who's..?
" Have dinner with me tomorrow, Sisi".
" Wow, where did that come from, beside we just met and I have work tomorrow".
" I know and that's why it's after work, it's nothing fancy really, just a harmless dinner at the fishers restaurant by 7:30 pm, just to get to know you better, or are you scared of this weirdo". Kunle said in a sarcastic manner.
" This what....."
" This weirdo. The guy that teaches mature ladies a lesson. Does that ring a bell?"
Sisi opened her eyes wide in surprise and turned to Tasah " You see why I told you to keep it down".she admonish.
" Well what I said wasn't a lie". she replied kunle
" It isn't exactly true either, give me a chance to clarify myself to you tomorrow, please" he said wanting to win her over.
" Kunle Williams will going to dinner tomorrow get you off my back?, because this is not a date".
" Certainly Sisi Cooper. So 7:30 it is tomorrow at the fishers restaurant. Do you want me to pick you up?".
[*He wants to show up, she thought*]
" No don't, I can find my way, thank you".
"Okay then, see you there and my regards to your friend, tell her am not really the weirdo she thinks I am".
" I will bye".
" Do you plan on going?" Tasah asked.
" What can of a question is that Tasah?"
" Well that's because you haven't been on a date in two years, two good years of cajoling you and fixing you on blind date all to no avail. I worried about you Sisi".
" Worried about what"
" Worried that you may never heal. Worried that you may use your insecurities and mistrust to mess up something good". Tasah said, laying her hands on Sisi shoulder.
" Oh please, Sisi said, moving away from Tasah so fast that her hand dropped down with a slapping sound on her laps".
" Am going for this one aren't I, beside who said something good is going to come out of this. There is no fact Tasah and am not ready for a test run ?" She said.
" Well, you wouldn't know unless you try?" Tasah said, moving into the kitchen with Sisi.
" Are you ready for breakfast, cos I'm hungry if you are not?"
" What do you want to prepare?" Tasah said, going with the flow, having know Sisi's way of changing conversation when she is not ready to face the truth.
[***LATER AT THE FISHERS RESTAURANT***]
Sisi walk majestically into the fishers restaurant, dreading every moment she was to spend in it. She has to prepare herself mentally for anything that was to take place and was determined to send kunle Williams running and never to look back before the dinner was over. The moment she stepped into it she noticed that it was empty, with just a waiter who she could see walking towards her. She also noticed alone man, sitting at the corner of the restaurant with the table facing the fountain. The view was breathtaking.
"Welcome ma, may I direct you to your table".
" Oh that fine". She said, knowing already that the guy sitting alone must be kunle and walked toward him.
" Hello Sisi, thanks for coming" he said while helping her to her seat.
Sisi observed kunle and as ever he was richly dress, not that he over did it. He wore a gray tuxedo that looked well tailor, especially for him and had this spicy musk smell, that she just couldn't get enough of, especially when combined with that killer smile of his.
[*How did I miss all this? damn girl I think you are falling for him, stick with the plan*]
" Why is the restaurant empty" Sisi said, trying a rude approach and ignoring what ever greetings she was to exchange with kunle.
"I paid for the hours we were to spend alone".
" I thought you said nothing fancy" she said gesturing to the restaurant.
"It's not, at least not to me". He said looking directly into her eyes. His eyes roam round her body, appreciating her look.
" You are looking nice,he said making her feel uneasy.
"Thank you" she said quickly looking away.
They called the waiter and placed their orders.
"About the other day, am not usually like that". " I know you might say she's my daughter but the truth is I don't really have a good relationship with Sonia. Not that I have anything against children but I never really knew about her, not until about five months ago". Sisi looked at kunle and saw his face crumble, she saw the indecision on his face, about just how much to reveal to her. she didn't know when she held his hand.
" it's okay,if you can't talk about it", she said remembering her own secret and how difficult it was for her to share it with anyone. Sisi's touch brought kunle out of whatever trances he was into, he held Sisi hands and she pulled it away quickly.
" Kate was the first woman I also love"
"Kate..?"
" She is Sonia's mom".
" I met her while I was still into car racing. She was egregiously reckless and I loved her for that".
" She was into the competition with us, and times and times again she proved how fierce she was".
" she won always".
Sisi was so engross and intrigued by Kunle' s story that she didn't know she was leaning towards him.
" wow.. but I thought you are rich?, and why car racing of all things to do".
Kunle grin, in a way that was beginning to get to her.
" There is a yes and no answer to that, which do you wanna hear first?"
Just as Sisi was about to answer, in walked a shabby dressed woman. kunle saw her first, and jumped up so fast his chair thundered to the ground unnoticed.
" What the hell.... who let this b***h in here". He pointed to the woman.
"WAITER!"
"I did". A feminine voice said. And kunle and Sisi turned toward the voice.
