CHAPTER FIVE: DECISION

833 Words
Anna POV I quickly recovered from my shock, dipped my hands into my breast pocket, and brought out a piece of paper. On it was written a string of numbers, I couldn't help but admire the writing. Elegant...but that was for only a moment before I started thinking of the events that took place today. Stepping out of the hospital with a deep breath...I exhaled once again. "I wonder what tomorrow holds for me", I said to myself. The rest of the night flowed past in a rush, and it was morning before I knew it. Stepping out with my CV in hand, I located the address after hours of going around. Standing before me was a company whose address led me to, and this is not just any company, but VOGUE DIOR! A very popular company. Calming my nerves while doubting my decision to come here, I walked into the reception area. Seeing a lady sitting behind the desk I approached "Urm..I am looking for someone", I told but she looked at me with a confused gaze and asked "Who? and Do you have an appointment", "No, but he gave me this", I said passing her the piece of paper the man left yesterday. A look of surprise flashed past her eyes. Immediately, she saw it, and I wonder why. "This is the president's direct office number, and he gave it to you?" she said with a surprised voice, but quickly picked up the telephone on the table to make a call. I let my thoughts drift. She just mentioned the president, so he was the president of this big company? And why did she look so surprised by the number? I was still asking myself multiple questions when the receptionist asked"Your name miss?", "Anna", I responded, she then repeated it to the person on the other side of the phone dropping the phone she gave series of instructions"follow the elevator and stop on the first floor, there is only one office there so it should be easy for you to locate", I thanked her, followed the instructions and soon i arrived at the office. I knocked, waited for a response before I pushed the big door open. Sitting behind the desk was the man whose name I still don't know." Surely you don't plan to standd there all day, right?" he asked with that annoying tone. Rolling my eyes I walked towards the desk and sat down. I got straight to the point "so, the offer you talked about ", dropping his pen he said "your mother is sick right and you can't afford the bill", "yes", I subconsciously replied before my eyes widened, wondering how he knew about that"you don't have to look at me that way, naturally I have my ways", he said before adding a sentence that threw my heart in a turmoil "I don't care how serious the sickness is or how expensive it it, I will settle it", "w.. what?", I stuttered thinking he was playing a joke on me. "Listen carefully because I won't repeat myself, I will provide for your mother's treatment on one condition ", he said, and I froze. I knew it was too good to be true, but I waited for him to state the condition, hoping it wouldn't go against my bottom line. "Marry me Anna", he said and it was as if the world around me suddenly stopped "What?", of all things I thought of, my mind certainly didn't think of this "Your mother's treatment would be taken care of, she will get the best of the best doctor...only if you agree to this condition of mine. My stomach churned but I still asked "why...why do you want to marry me?", he looked at me with an unreadable expression before saying "I am not doing this because I love you or have feelings for you, but because I too don't have a choice but no worries, you wouldn't be at a disadvantage. afterall there are benefits ", he paused probably to let his words sink before saying we'll be married for a year and we will discuss the terms and conditions. Though she was unwilling, she knew one thing very well: this was an opportunity she shouldn't miss. After all, she couldn't immediately see a job that could pay enough for her mother's surgery, it was just for a year, and they would go their separate ways. "ok, I agree, but it has to be written in black and white", I said with a demanding tone, and I saw his lips curling into what I'll call a mocking smile. Immediately, he made a series of calls and made arrangements before he cut the call and faced me. " You can leave now, when the contract is ready, I'll communicate with you", he said, clearly dismissing me. I rolled my eyes, stood up, and walked out. What a jerk, it's not as if I crave to be in his presence.
