CHAPTER EIGHT : APPROVAL

Anna POV

I walked in there feeling hopeful and somewhat optimistic about this whole situation, but now I'm angry.

He had judged me with so much disdain that I couldn't help but question my worth. Well, the year is already three weeks behind schedule, so I will soon be free from this.

My thoughts were cut off by the ringing of my phone. Pulling it out I saw it was Kira..

"Hello", I picked. "Anna, quick come to the hospital, Doctor Martins wants to see you", she replied, voice thick with excitement ... before I could ask what was going on, she hung up

Shaking my head, I quickly jumped into a taxi and reached the hospital in 15 minutes before going straight to Dr. Martin's office to find out what had gotten ailed.

I knocked.. hearing a muffled "come in", before I pushed the door to go in. Before I could say anything, "An,na, dear, your mother is saved, Doctor Luca from Italy, one of the best in the field of cancer, has specially come here to treat your mother ", he said, and I was stunned knowing fully well who was behind this.. Carlton..his name is echoed in my mind. Although I am grateful, I couldn't help but remember how despicable he was.

Quickly, I got over my shock, my face blooming into a wide smile, and replied " Really! That's good, I'll go there now", and I set off to my mom's room.

Getting there, I saw her in a daze as a man in his early 30s examined her.

"Ma'am though your situation is a little complicated, I would try my best to make you healthy again ", Doctor Lucas said to my mum before nodding at me and stepping out to probably go run some tests or something.

Turning back to my mom, I could see a glimmer of hope flashing through her eyes as she beckoned me to come over.

Sitting beside her with relief washing over me as I'm finally seeing a light. "Anna..", she trailed off..I sat up straight as I knew the questioning I was afraid of was finally happening. " I am filled with hope as a skilled doctor is already in charge", she continued. As I awaited the but, and just like I had expected, she added, "But I know our situation better than anyone, so how were you suddenly able to afford an international doctor?" With a gaze that made me know I must leave an explanation.

Bracing myself with an excuse I had prepared before I replied. "Mom, I know, but I didn't do any of this, my boyfriend did." I didn't let her say anything before I continued, "he had offered to help, but I disagreed. Now, seeing the situation had gone out of control, I let him." I looked at her expression carefully. I added." Oh, and mom, we plan to get a marriage certificate tomorrow and have a wedding ceremony when you're healed." Boom! I watched as her face changed from one expression to another before finally settling on disbelief. "What! So quick, why?" Her weak voice echoed in the ward." Yes, Mom, I love him", I said, wishing the earth would just open up and swallow me with such a silly excuse. If only she knew I already had the marriage certificate before letting her know.

Soon she calmed down and, with a sigh, said, "If you really love him, then fine, but you must bring him to meet me." I looked up in shock, thinking to myself, It's over just like that?. She must have seen my expression because she suddenly said "You're so grown up now, I can't keep making decisions for you, so if you really love him then marry him but remember you must bring him to meet me otherwise when the time comes and I find out he is a scum, I'll tear the marriage certificate right in front of you both. Understood?" Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged her. "Thank you, Mom", I said, still feeling emotional and wondering how I would break the news to her once it's a year.

Patting my back "ok ok stop crying like a baby you should go talk to your boyfriend about coming to meet me", she said so I stood up sniffling "Alright Mom i will make arrangements ", I said as I pulled back, but the only problem is how I bring Carlton here, who doesn't even want to be in my presence. I was still thinking of ways to convince him to come when I heard a noise behind me. I turned around and my eyes widened in shock.

I watched her eyes widen, and as I walked into the world, clearly she was surprised to see me. I myself didn't know why I came here, perhaps because I don't trust. I convinced myself though there was a small voice at the back of my mind telling me otherwise.

I stepped in, seeing her mom on the left side of the room while she was at the table, pouring water for her mom while giving me pleading signs, which I pretended not to see. Walking up to her mother, I immediately put on an act, greeted and introduced myself "Hello ma'am, I am Carlton Romano, Anna's husband", I smiled cheekily, introducing myself as a husband not a boyfriend, and from the corner of my eye I could see a beautiful shade of blush on Anna's face. Why was she blushing? She should know why I'm doing this. "Hmm, you should know who I am already, I am Rose, Anna's mother ", she said with a stern expression, though I could tell her first impression of me was good.

"So you and Anna are getting married all of a sudden, don't you think that was too rushed? "she said, and I know my next response could determine her evaluation of the whole situation. Not wanting to spoil everything I had planned carefully, I got into an act.

"Ma'am, I apologize for what I'm about to say, but you should understand how love is. I love Anna so much that I want to see her with me every time so I thought about it and decided for that to happen, I have to make her my lawfully wedded wife but due to the respect I have for you, we decided to get a certificate now and hold a proper ceremony when you're better", I said with confidence and I saw her expression shift from surprise to realization to understanding and finally her face bloomed into a smile. " If you had not said it, I would have almost forgotten what love felt like since it's been a long time since my husband died", she said sadly before she continued "Alright, it's good you love my daughter this way, I bless your union and please take care of her, she's all I got", she said gently before adding a stern warning at the end. I smiled at the acceptance, looking at Anna with an evil smirk before saying," Thank you, ma'am, I'll make sure to protect her till my last breath ", I said. She gave a satisfied smile before responding, "Call me Rose. I chuckled, smiled internally at the acceptance, and was about to say something when Lucas came inside.

"Mr. Carlton", he greeted respectfully and I nodded before he went to tell Rose to prepare for the second phase of treatment. Giving him some space, I approached Anna, who was looking so red that she could drip blood "wifey", I said as she looked up at me with those big, beautiful eyes..." How were you able to pretend like that?" she asked weakly. I gave a sarcastic laugh before responding, "And who told you I was pretending?" I said, not sure why I said that too. She looked up in shock asking shakily" You love me?", "Don't humor yourself, you are not my type", I responded, wanting to see her break for whatever reason. I watched color drain from her face, and was about to taunt her more when I saw Rose stand up to move to the treatment room, as this room was for recuperating only.

Anna moved past me, reaching her mom, and they both said a few things before she nodded at me with a smile and followed Lucas.

Then I moved my gaze towards Anna, smiling evilly I whispered "Now rate my performance, I am a fast learner right?",
