Chapter Two
Cheyenne POV
Everyone was here having fun watching the ceremony until some crazy woman came out of nowhere trying to kill Kayla. She was screaming about Kayla killing her father, but she ended up dead herself. Vines started emerging from the ground, pulling her into the earth. It was quite a scene when she ripped out her heart. It was entertaining while it lasted, but once things calmed down, everyone began moving into the grand hall. We had tables set up where people could walk around or dance, and there were plenty of mini bars for guests to grab a drink or two. Everyone was enjoying themselves until I spotted Tori entering the grand hall hand in hand with a handsome stranger. I didn't recognize him. I wondered which pack he was from. I could sense he was an alpha from his powerful aura. He resembled someone from my past, but I couldn't quite place it. He sported long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, tattoos on his knuckles, hands, and arms. He was heavily inked. As they approached, I noticed his dark green eyes and that he stood at about 6.1 feet, just as tall as my mate, Mercury. Standing in front of me, I smiled at Tori. She had been a tremendous help throughout everything.
“Hey there, who's the guy next to you?” I asked, glancing at him. Tori beamed, clearly having found her mate. I could tell by the way they looked at each other, much like how Mercury and I gazed at each other - a couple deeply in love.
“Cheyenne, I'd like you to meet my mate, Bear. We just found each other a few minutes ago. Bear, this is the mighty Cheyenne,” Tori introduced him. I couldn't help but chuckle at being called mighty. I've been called many things, but never mighty. What was Tori up to, trying to impress me? I decided to play along and see where this was going.
“I wouldn't call myself mighty, Tori. Ava is the one who holds that title now as the queen of the mafia, with Ishia as the king. So, Bear, what pack do you lead?” Bear seemed taken aback by my question, but it was Tori who spoke on his behalf.
‘Right now, he doesn't have a pack. His father passed away, and before he could take over, rogues came and killed everyone. So now, he's looking for new land to start a new pack. I had to tilt my head. Was she for real? There was no way rogues could come and kill so many people. Just how many people were in that pack? I knew I had a look of shock on my face, so I had to recover fast. I had to mindlink her.
"Honey, you know I know when you lie. You suck at it. What's really going on?" I heard her sigh, knowing that she had been caught in the lie. It didn't take long for her to reply to me,
"Can I tell you later about it? Right now isn't a good time." Instead of linking back to her, I just nodded, then asked another question,
"So, did you figure out what land you wanted to buy to get yourself set up? Mercury is good at finding land that isn't owned by anyone; I could ask him if you would like." I knew this was a far-fetched idea, but if I'm going to play along, I have to ask questions, right? He nodded and said,
"Sure, please, if you do not mind." Before I could answer him, Mercury came over, grabbing my hand to take me to the dance floor. Oh, how I love it when he does this! When we are home, he would out of nowhere just pull me out of my chair and start dancing with me. He says it keeps the spark alive. I don't think dancing keeps the spark alive, but I do love it when he does this.
Bear POV:
Is Tori crazy telling Cheyenne a bunch of lies? What will happen when Cheyenne finds out what's really going on? I could tell they were mindlinking, and then Cheyenne nodded and asked if I wanted her to ask Mercury about land. The last thing I want is to talk to Mercury; he is a mean son of a b*tch. The last time I saw him was when I was a kid; I was only twelve when he beat my uncle up. I can't say if he deserved it or not, but at least he got what he deserved. I was thankful when Mercury pulled Cheyenne onto the dance floor. I really wanted to get out of here. I wasn't comfortable at all. I guess when you're alone for so many years, you get antsy when you're in a large crowd.
"Hey, do you want to get out of here? You look like you're about to get sick. I’ll take you to my house, and you can sleep on the couch until we get to know each other more." I was so happy when she asked if I wanted to get out of here because it's exactly what I wanted to do. Tori grabbed my hand as we walked out together. I couldn't help but feel the sparks of our mate bond. I wondered if she felt them as well. She couldn't have because I'm wearing the blocker; she can’t feel anything as long as I'm wearing it. It's a locket that my mother gave me so long ago. She once told me, "If you are not ready for your mate, if you want to be stronger before you claim her, then wear it around your neck. Then she will never feel the mate bond. She will be drawn to me but never feel the bond." So, I'm wearing it around my neck, hiding it under my shirt. But if she ever sees it, she would think it was just a necklace. Let's just hope I will get to be the alpha before I take this necklace off. I want my mate; I want to tell her the truth. It's eating at me, but I have to be stronger before I let her know.
