Gregory

1649 Words
As soon as the Adventurers were ushered out from the courtyard of the Lord's House, Guy held on to the arm of Gregory the guard as he was softly spoken to him in the most convincing manner. "Brother Gregory, I'm not trying to scare you or anything but what I had written on the sand earlier in front of the Lord's house was solely meant for him and him only." "What I had written was "Do not poke a stick at a hornet's nest unless you are getting ready to be stung." and this was meant to the Lord Austin Powers as a warning." "Since I do carry the words of Our Majesty, what my words are his words too. And what was relayed by any other people would be their words to him as well." "If Our Majesty is here right now and was facing with these words from your Lord, what do you think he might do?" "What I am trying to say next is not to incite the masses to revolt or create reason with your Lord but bear in mind, that we decided to abort our tasks at the meantime and head back to Gracehaven to deliver your Lords message to Our Majesty." "Since he had so much looked done on Our Majesty, just wait for him to come and address him up properly." "Brother Gregory... I know you are a good man and so does your fellow guards as well as your relatives. If happen that Our Majesty comes here with his hundred of troops, what would you going to do?" Gregory the guard blinked his eyes hard as he tried to absorb as much information as he could from the young lad of not even 18 years of age in front of him. Not only he had written a message of retaliation and acceptance to the insult that the Lord of the house had spoken much earlier, but the thought of sending hundred of troops over would mean the town would be besieged. Beads of cold sweat began to form on Gregory's forehead as he tried to recount of what would happen if a King would lead a troop and besiege the town just because of some insults thrown by the Lord of the house. "Look here, young lad. I won't want anything to happen to me, my friends and my families when Your Majesty makes his way over here. Besides, it takes 5 days to and from your town, am I right? And it takes some days to assemble troops too, right?" "So let's say in 2 weeks time your Majesty and the troops come over here to address the Lord of the house and then what would happen next?" Gregory the guard was Stammering in his speech as he tried to form some kind of reasons to make Guy change his mind. "I am sorry, dear brother Gregory. I am an ambassador of the Majesty's Court so anything that was being said to me and anything that was said by me stands proof and concrete and there's no two way around it." "I suggest you surrender the time when Our Majesty and his trips make a move within the town. He may come alone or he may come with only 2 of his rusted subordinates or even a thousand soldiers... But he would definitely come when I say the word to him." Gregory the guard swallowed his thick saliva down his parched throat when he heard the word surrender. He doesn't earn much being a guard here and it's more like a voluntary community service. None of the guards here had seen any actions and was not part of the militia even. They were conscripted due to the Lord's order and that's it. They were paid lesser than a conscript and had only one meal provided each day. Since the guards were on voluntary community service, they were only paid 2 shillings per month...! "Brother, we really are going to abort our mission and head back to Gracehaven? Is it true?" Gillian was overjoyed when she heard that Guy mentioned about aborting the mission and heads back to the town to inform Our Majesty about the happenings at Camp. "It's true, little sister. Alright then, Gregory. We have to bid our farewell right away. Just spread the news that Gracehaven would be coming over and so be prepared to lay down your arms without single bloodshed. Besides, I am sure it would be most beneficial for you and your fellows to simply surrender." Guy mentioned again as he took his bow and sword back from the lady that was meaning the stand and have the ticket back in return. It is a pity that this town was such a flourishing state that had such a foul-mouthed lord as their leader. Well, not for long, O inhabitants of Camp. Very soon, Our Majesty would be coming in here to set things straight. As what Eagle had said before, of thugs can't be settled in peace then force would be the next ideal answer. Hahaha. After the Adventurers had gotten their provisions as well as some greens from the vegetable farm, the adventurers bade farewell to the barkeep, Gregory the guard and some of the town folks that they had met along the way after getting some greens and paid some pennies to them to compensate the slight loss. "Remember, brother Gregory, we would return within 2 weeks time and by that time, you should know what to do, alright?" Guy advised to Gregory before he raised his arms to bade farewell to the rest of the guys manning the watchtower. He hoped that he had gone ample warnings to them, whether His Majesty had decided to take action or not it is going to be another thing. To land a slap on the household name of Macleod is already a big insult and shouldn't take lightly. Just because the ambassador was someone this young, what would the other parties faced, if their leader was someone younger than Guy? Would they too faced the same situation as him right now? Before long, the adventurers were adamant to march straight back and would only make camp when they had reached some kind of shelter that would be comfortable enough. They skirted around the marshlands and then moved along the other side of where the boulder and rocks were. Instead, they had marched through some wetlands, thus gaining more time to get across and head back towards Broderbund. The thoughts of catching some fishes in the duck pond had been totally dismissed as the Adventurers felt the fire burning within themselves and this urged them to move forwards even though it was getting somewhat darker. Gillian took out the incandescent pebble and placed it inside the linen beeswax bag and latched it on herself and this illuminated the way rather brightly since it was a moonless night. With Gillian leading the way back, they made good distance in the night and stopped when they were really tired and needed to take a break to stretch their legs for some hours. They chose a good place to set up an encampment which was after Broderbund where they could see some lights within the houses which indicate some kind of activity. Even though they had been to the village once, it doesn't mean that they could barge anytime they wanted in the middle of the night. Best they camped outside about a few miles from the outskirts and then continue their journey onwards. Since there were no fires made, they had cold water from their leather skins instead and munch on their 6 pennies worth of a loaf of pound bread instead. "Guy, would Our Majesty act on the insolence of the Lord of the House just now? He seemed unperturbed and was as if he was the only Lord in this lands and throughout...!" Guinness hissed his displeasure and wanted to come along with The Majesty in case he made the trip back here. "We won't know yet but at this moment, as what Minister Gwen had told us to retreat at the first sign of trouble and therefore we should report the matter to His Majesty." " If he acted, we can persuade to follow him back here. If not then we can just dismiss the whole idea and go back to our tasks and see how well the rest of the parties performed." "Well, Guy. I wished to follow up on this matter along with his Majesty, what say you and the rest?" Guinness asked and was immediately responded with an AYE from the rest, including his spouse. "Alright then, we rest up and then head back to our town and cover as much ground as possible. It may be tough in you guys but we would start the day just before dawn and rest slightly after dusk." "In the case, we might cover more than 15 miles in a day. We would be able to get back to town within 5 days then. Goodnight to all... " Guy curled up in his blanket and soon was fast asleep as the rest soon followed suit. It was exactly 5 days after when they finally reached Gracehaven on Saturday, 17th September 1442. =*= Dear friends and fans, If you discover any grammatical errors along the way, we would appreciate if you would be able to point them out as part of helping us to keep this novel as perfect as possible.
