Even though Kalton had succeeded in convincing me in different ways that everything was alright, as we approached the grand house, I still felt anxious
The front door swung open before we reached it, revealing my smiling mother. "Sienna!" she exclaimed, rushing forward to hold me in a tight embrace. "Oh, my darling, I'm so sorry. We should have told you everything sooner."
I returned the hug, my own eyes welling up. "Mum," I whispered, the word feeling strange on my tongue after so long. Not after I felt betrayed by her.
