CHAPTER THREE

1316 Words
Kyren POV The instant I opened the door, there was stirring at the back of my mind. My wolf was now starting to gyrate with excitement, kicking at my consciousness, yet I placed a firm hold on it and narrowed my eyes on the woman before me. She seemed fairly young, definitely in her early 20s, and she stared at me as though she was looking at an alien. "Aren't you Sienna?" I repeated. She bobbed her head. My wolf let out a low growl, "Mate." What the actual heck? I reasoned, as my knots drew close in a frown. "Your mother spoke so highly of you, yet you chose to spend your first night in Italy, getting wasted! You look like a complete mess." I scowled at her, trying to distract myself from the uneasiness of my wolf. "What are you doing here?" She asked me with a shaky voice. I adjusted the collar of my crisp white shirt, still frowning at her. "Look, you're asking the wrong question. You should be asking me what I planned on doing if I hadn't found you as I walked out this door." I said. She slapped a palm over her mouth, staggering backwards. "Go into the house, Now." I ordered, as I stepped aside to make way for her to walk through. She edged backwards again, "No, this isn't happening." She muttered. "Sienna?" I shot at her in a voice that came out more harsh than I expected. She scrambled past me and I slammed the door close. By the time I swung around, it was to see my father walk down the staircase with Bibian, his new wife besides him. "You found her, Son?" My father asked. I shook my head, "No, she came home a few minutes ago, with no luggage at all." Her mother, Bibian, threw a stern look at her. Her lips were curled in disgust, "Sienna, is this how you choose to treat me?" She barked. Sienna shuffled her feet, stealing glances at me, "Mum, I had to show up for a friend's birthday party, and I'm so sorry I couldn't get home last night." "In less than 24 hours of being in Italy, you're already forcing me to regret my decision of making you to come over." Her mother shot back at her. I watched the scene unfold before me, and for the first time, I saw the striking resemblance between Sienna and her mother. Sienna was more of the younger version of her mother, with a smaller figure. Not wanting to listen to any more of their conversation, I walked out of the house and went into my car to heat up the engine. Afterwards, I remained in the car, thinking about Sienna. I didn't mean to be rude to her; I just had to do it because I was so confused about what my wolf had said. Mate? How could my step sister possibly be my mate? At 23, I had already ruled out every possibility of ever having a fated mate. All I had were flings with random women, and they all ended up with me drawing blood from them to satisfy my thirst. But, Sienna? There was something about her which struck me as odd. Her first words to me were, "What are you doing here?" From what I could remember, she didn't look pleased at all to see me, and if I were to be honest enough, I'd admit that she was rather shocked to see me. Last night, her mother had barged into my room in tears, sobbing about how Sienna who was supposed to get home that evening, texted to say that she had something to catch up with. What could a young woman like her possibly find in a crazy place like Italy on her first day of arrival? It sounded ridiculous to me, yet, I tried my best to reassure Bibian that she was going to be just fine. I even went ahead to promise her mother that I'd comb the city, in search of her and file the case of a missing person at the station if she didn't show up within 48 hours. Somehow, long before Sienna had arrived, I was already expecting her. It was so easy to catch on to the clear excitement her mother embodied around the house about my new step sister who would be coming to live with us. I never got to have any sibling besides Kalton, my twin brother. Nothing else pissed me off as much as the idea of having an enemy who shared my face, and had my exact features. For years, it had always felt as though I was living in his shadows, until the day I took over one of dad's tech companies as the CEO. That was the only thing I ever did in my life that gave me an identity which was different from who Kalton was. It wasn't long before Dad started showing interest in me. I was the good twin. The responsible twin who stayed out of troubles; the twin my father could easily brag about. The only stain I had on me was a secret which I guarded with my life—a secret that Kalton knew and could use as a weapon against me. The thought of Kalton riled me up, and soon, rage coursed through me. I grew thirsty. My senses flared, and I reached out to the back seat to picked up the last blood bag I had left. With a raw hunger, I tore it open and emptied its content into my mouth, a chill ran down my spine as the thick liquid went down my throat. I gasped with relief as soon as I was done with drinking, allowing the bag to fall from my hands. I remained still in the car, lost in thoughts, as I leaned my head against the car seat. I got startled by the sound of sharp knocking on my window besides me. I jerked my head sideways to see Sienna, rapping her knuckles on the car window. My mouth immediately ran dry. Panic clawed through me as my hand flew over to my mouth to wipe off the traces of blood. It was only when she knocked on the window for the third time that I realized that there was no way she could see me, as the car's windows were all tinted. For the first time in a long while, I was grateful about my decision to tint my car windows. I watched, relieved as she drew a step backwards and ran her eyes over the black sedan. Perhaps, she was trying to figure out if I was actually in it. I made sure to wipe off my lips, and carefully tuck the empty blood bag away in the back seat. My eye fell a small red stain at the end of my shirt, and I quickly pulled out my handkerchief, placing over the spot. I couldn't take any risks. There was no f*****g way I'd allow her to see that I was a vampire, and blood was the only thing that calmed me down when my emotions were too wild for me to control. Being an Hybrid in a city dominated by humans was one of the toughest things my twin and I had to adjust to when we first moved to Italy. I waited a while longer for Sienna to walk away from my car and finally go back into the house, before I got out. When I walked into the house, all three of them were seated at the breakfast table. My father's sharp eyes took me in as he dropped his fork on his plate, a little too noisily. "Son, Sienna was out there a few minutes ago to call you in." He said. "Where have you been?"
