2. TEST OF LIFE

1003 Words
RUTH'S POV My body felt totally weird. I could feel my heart beating so fast that I thought my life was going to slip out of my own very hands. I wasn't okay at all. I just couldn't be okay at all. I watched as my mother turned towards the door and entered almost immediately after receiving a piece of paper from someone else. "I will look into this right now," My mother dismissed the girl and turned to look at me. I gasped as I saw what was in her hand and narrowed my eyes at it. I couldn't understand why she had that strange look on her face neither could I understand where all this was leading to. "What is that?" I asked, making sure it wasn't my imagination. "This is a pregnancy information," my mother answered, moving closer to me. "What do we need it for?" I asked bluntly. "To know if you are pregnant." "But, I am not pregnant," I protested. "Well, I think you are pregnant, honey; you've only recently started gaining weight, and I am just checking to see if my suspicions are correct." She said. "Get that piece of paper away from me. I am not pregnant. How can you think such a thing, mom? You know, I haven't found my mate yet, and I am too young to be having sex." I said, gazing at her. I felt like my words were landing on deaf ears when she grasped my hand and looked into my eyes. I closed my eyes in fear and horror. I couldn't be pregnant. It was just a two-night stand. I don't remember a thing about it. I thought. My greatest fear came to realization when my mom made her away into the bathroom and opened the piece of paper. "Oh my god!" she screamed covering her face with her hand and her mouth wide open. I was confused and scared. I couldn't understand why she was shouting and yelling at me. "What is wrong, mom?" I asked, looking at the fear in her eyes. I picked up the piece of paper and glanced at it. I didn't understand what it was saying because it was the first time that I saw it. "You are pregnant, Ruth." She said, in a shaky voice. Her words were like a thunderclap and I didn't know how to react. My heart dropped to my stomach as I saw the tears in her eyes. "How did this happen, honey? If your father finds out, he is going to kill you." She whimpered with her lips trembling. "I am not pregnant. This piece of paper is lying to you," I said and tossed it to the floor. I can't be pregnant for Tom. If my father finds out I will be a lump of dead meat. "I am not pregnant!" I shouted, holding tightly to my hair and crying. "Keep your voice down. I am sure there must be a misunderstanding. I will call the pack doctor to come check up on you." She said, removing my hand from my body. "Thanks, mom," I said in a shaky voice and hugged her tightly burying my head in her warm embrace. She stroked my back firmly and pulled away from the hug. "No matter what the doctor says, I will stand by you." She said with a reassuring smile before leaving the room. * "You called the doctor? You don't have to do that. I think Ruth is just feeling under the weather. She will be fine before you know it. She is our daughter. She is a strong woman. She knows how to take care of herself." My dad said, gazing at my mom. Sweat started forming on my forehead. I was numb and glued to my bed. I couldn't open my mouth to say anything. The doctor stared at me with a lot of pity and then handed the result to my father. My heart started pounding in my ribcage as he read it. As my heart pounded loudly and my father took the piece of paper, I was saying a lot of prayers and hoping that things didn't end badly with me before the end of the day. "This can't be possible; my little girl is not a b***h that will just throw herself at any man that comes her way." My dad said and tore the paper into pieces. My mom's leg was wobbling as she stood behind him. "I know it is hard to believe, sir, but your daughter is pregnant, three months pregnant." The doctor said. My father looked at me with those eyes that could kill. His gray eyes darkened. "What do you have to say for yourself?" my dad asked. I gripped tightly to the sheets. I couldn't say anything for myself. I was completely lost. I was completely shredded into pieces. "Are you sure of what you are telling me? Did you conduct the test well?" My dad asked the doctor with a straight face. "Yes, sir. The test was conducted properly and there is no evidence of mistake." The doctor replied. My dad tossed a threatening glare at me. "Who got you pregnant? Speak up!!" he shouted in a rumbling tone, sending shivers down my spine. "I...I don't know." I replied with my lips trembling. I can't tell him it is Tom, his worst enemy. He will surely kill me and the baby. "You don't know! So, you have become a b***h in the blink of an eye by sleeping with someone that isn't your mate!" my dad ranted. "How did this happen, honey?" my mom asked. Tears started dripping from my eyes. "Ugh! I don't know, mom, I don't know," I replied, weeping. My hot tears burned my eyes as they drifted down my pale cheeks. "You have to kill that baby in her womb," my father's voice rose the most. "You must kill it immediately!" The doctor shook in fear. He couldn't say a word.
