Scott was pinned between a car and a stone bollard, his blood soaking into the white hood. Over the screams of the crowd, the white car backed up a few yards and then came at us again. Brian shoved me. "Run." But he ran the other way, dragging Scott, alive or dead I couldn't tell, out of the car's path. The car pushed through the barricade and didn't stop until it hit the traffic light. Blood was coming out of Scott's nose and mouth. I knelt beside him and dialed 911 with shaking hands.
