Chapter twenty

Regina's pov

Through the slightly opened door, a pair of shiny black leather shoes appeared to my view, before I could look at the face, a force pulled me back. I blinked at the sudden movement, staring at Blue's back . He steadily cut off my view answering whoever was at the door.

" What are you doing here ?" I heard him ask , his voice strangely turning cold .

" I just thought of visiting you, who knew that I would see something so interesting. " The man's deep voice sounded teasing and mocking at same time. I fought the urge to move aside from Blue's obstruction to see his face .

Not only did he blocked my view, he also held my hand tightly behind him , completely shielding me away from the man's gaze .

" I know you're not here to joke. Say whatever you want to say and leave ." Blue hissed harshly.

" Don't be so rude to your brother. "

Brother?? Wait ... it's Lucas Maxwell!!! Wow, I thought they were on good terms . It's really obvious they're not .

" Dad said you wouldn't pick up your calls , so I decided to stop by . Come home for dinner tonight, it's an important one . " Lucas said, straighten his black suit as I peeked from Blue's black. His hair was gelled to the back, leaving his fair face bare . His dress sense gave the ' business man' vibes.

" Fine . Leave " I heard Blue replied.

My eyes widen as Lucas black eyes snapped towards me . I quickly hid behind Blue's back.

" And ... You shouldn't be fooling with this innocent one while you have a fiance ! " His mocking tone rang before he left.

Fiance?? The word hit me like a rock. I never knew Blue had a fiance . Wow , that was new . No wonder he said he didn't have a girlfriend at the last interview he had at Summer sun , turned out he had a fiance.

I heard Blue let out a small sigh , letting his shoulders fall . I stood behind him not knowing what to think.

" Let's go." He muttered to my hearing as he put on his shoes . I did the same snapping out from my dream land to reality.

He gave me a mask to wear just like he did and we walked through the hallway. A girl with a rich yellow hair appear from a corner before us . She looked good with her a pretty face and a stunning figure. She wore a short floral pattern dress coupled with a five inch white heels .

" Hey ... I didn't see you in class today " she says to him .

"I thought you didn't come. " She added with a small smile on her face before glancing at me . I suddenly had the urge to hide .

" Hum , hi Crystal ." Blue answered awkwardly before glancing at me . We got caught again.

" Do you mind telling me where you two are coming from with wet hairs ?" Crystal said crossing her arms . Blue eyes snapped towards my wet hair and mine to his . His brows tightened a bit . We need an excuse right now. ' we fell into a pool ? ' there's no pool in Adolf.

In this kind of situation, we were bound to be misunderstood.

" Well... I do mind a bit but this is my friend. " He replied putting his hand over my shoulder.

" Say hi to Crystal . " He added blinking at me .

" Hello " I waved at her trying my best to sound confident. Her face was without a smile as she stare at me blankly.

Thank God for the mask else my embarrassment would have been visible .

" Uhh... We've got to go. " Blue said ignoring Crystal's expression and dragging me along with him, away from the school.

We got into the woods in no time, and we fortunately did not meet anyone else on our way.

" Hey " I called out to him in a low voice and he stopped walking.

" You should go back . I can leave from here " I said to him clutching my black bag.

" That's a relief. You know, I've never been so unorganized as I was today and you ...my dear " He poked my forehead lightly . " Are my source of chaos . "

" Woa...woah ... What " an sarcastic laugh escaped my throat as I slapped his hand off my head.

" Unbelievable, did I as ask you to save my chaotic ass . I'm leaving. " I muttered,walking away from him . He bit his lips to hold back his laughter.

" Regina " no answer

" Regina" he called out again.

" What" I snapped my head at him. Well, maybe too fast because my hair was now all over my face from the fast movement. I heard his boyish laughter and angrily whipped my hair away from my face , glaring at him .

"Hmm . I will come home late tonight. Alright , bye . " He said walking away with a smile on his face.

It was my turn to call him now .

" Blue" he paused .

" Friends? " I asked nervously fidgeting with my fingers and he chuckled.

" Yes , friends" he affirms running his hand through his hair as he walked away .

I just officially became friends with an A-list artist !!!!

I couldn't stop the wide smile that formed on my face as I walked to my next class.

" Yeehhhhhh" A piercing girly scream hit my ear as I was embraced tightly by God know who ???

I stood stiffly hoping that whoever was holding me would release me quickly. Soon enough, I was released and a cute chubby face appeared before me .

" Gina !!! ... You don't remember me ? " She asked and I stared critically at the familiar face .

" Sorry ... Racheal ??? " I replied. She was a neighbor at the Wilson house and my best friend before they moved to Russia. We were only eighteen then .

" Oh my ... What happened to you . You finally dropped the idea of being a tomboy ." I teased her for her girly look she laughed.

" Yeah , I know right. I'm back to new York now so let's hang out a lot !! . " She replied smiling.

I got home and found Gwen sulking on the sofa .

" Good evening" I said but my greetings fell on deaf ears . Gwen sighed looking at the black tv .

Is it because I came home really late today ? . Well, it's not my fault. I just reunited with my old friend and we have a lot to catch up on .

Gwen sighed again, with closed eyes. Is he really that hungry????

I dashed into the kitchen to start work. I made a hearty meal with chicken stock , matzo meal and vegetables aka matzo ball soup .

While the soup was still on fire, I peeped at Gwen who was still sitting on the sofa in daze . It seemed like something was bothering him.

Feeling concerned , I took my phone to the living room and connected it to the home theater . I searched through my phone for some good music , Blue's music of course. "Losing"

I watched as I tremble at the thought

Thoughts of losing people who weren't really down for me anyway .

Still, my loyalty and love ran deep .

It's nothing till I fall .

Either I fall for the lies in their words

Or I fall in line with your heart .

Who cares what the world says .

They weren't there when it happened

And I only care when my heart says it enough !

It enough....

I felt pathetic for clinging on to airs

So ... Instead of losing them

I fell back and watch them lose me .

Blue's songs was always accompanied with beautiful, classy piano, you don't expect anything less from a piano god and the lyrics were just enough to send you to the skies . Away from the problematic reality.

" Hey , something is burning" Gwen said with a sense of urgency. With that sentence , I dashed into the kitchen like a lightening.

" Oh my ... The soup ... " I turned the gas off , heaving out a sigh of relief. The soup was still intact.

I dished out Gwen's food with a frown on my face . That punk lied on purpose.

I went out with the food only to find Gwen sitting at the dining table, welcoming the food with a satisfied smirk.

I slammed the tray on the table, giving him a hard glare before placing the meal before him . I walked towards the kitchen to eat.

" Wait" Gwen says and I paused .

" What ? " I asked crossing my arms . He gestured for me to sit .

" Does it bother you ? ... living a life without parents or a real family ?" he asked and I was caught off guard.

" Why do you ask? "

" Nothing. Just some wondering thoughts. " He replied, trying to act nonchalant. I don't know anything about his family but to me , he seemed like someone surrounded with happy parents and relations .

" To be honest, it does sometimes and some other times it doesn't. I lived my life from childhood knowing that I had no family, I have to think twice before taking any steps knowing the fact that if I win , I'll be happy and if I lose I'd suffer alone so therefore, I couldn't act recklessly . I've always had that kind of mentality . So, it doesn't bother me anymore. But then again, I have not lived with a real family so I won't know how much I'm missing. " I finished my long speech with a small smile as I watched Gwen nods with understanding.

" You might not understand much because I can sense you grew up with a lot of love . Probably from a real family . " I added and he raised his brows .

" Me ? " He asked pointing at himself, he chuckled.

" I did not grow up with my parents or any blood relation. All the love that radiates in my life came from Rex . I too was an orphan and I got to know Blue at the orphanage we both stayed before his father came to pick him up . I grew up with Rex and he took the role of a parent in my life although I was just seven then . " He replied and to say I was surprised was an understatement.

" Blue did that ?? Wow , what of his own parents? They accepted you ? " I asked.

" Pfft , they didn't even know about me . He hid me in the Maxwell mansion for almost nine years without being caught. And what surprised me the most was nobody in that house never cared to ask Rex why he was always eating alone in his room and what he diligently spent his monthly allowances on or asked why they was always a ladder beside his window. It was all because of me. " He smiled bitterly .

" He sent me to school with his allowances and we shared every single meal under the Maxwell's roof until we rented our own apartment. Thinking about those times, we were really happy and reckless then , sharing the joy that even a blood relation couldn't give . " He continued . You could see joy radiating from his eyes but then he stopped smiling.

" And now that I am fully grown, a woman came to me . Claiming to be my birth mother. She gave some measly excuses saying she is sorry. " He added with anger lacing in his voice .

" What ? That's insane. " I muttered.

" You see , Regina , you also think so too. How did it even happen? She was supposed to be gone for ever but now she keeps popping up around me , it's almost driving me nuts. Who said I needed biological parents now ? I've got the best parent I could ever pray for. " Gwen clench his fist on the table with a red face, clearly angry.

" It's fine, it's okay. You don't need to get yourself worked up over her . " I said rubbing my sweaty palms together. I could feel his anger and unwillingness. If I was the one I'd probably be smashing things in anger but he held it in very well .

" I think you should tell Blue about this " I told him and he shook his head almost immediately.

" No no . Regina don't even think about saying a word about this to him " he warns snarly and I raised my hands up helplessly.

" Fine . But don't you think he's going to find out with your poor acting skills . " I rebutted.

" He won't , trust me. " He replied finally picking up his spoon to eat .

Blue entered the the house almost immediately Gwen finish speaking.

" Hey" he greets as he made his way towards us with a shopping bag in one hand.

" Hey " Gwen answered with much enthusiasm, trying to mask up his worries. I stood up to dish out Blue's food too .

" Did something happen while I was away ? " Blue asked Gwen and I looked at him with an ' I told you ' look.

" Nothing much " Gwen replied wisely . "What's in the bag ? " He asked.

" A dress " Blue replied shortly sitting on a chair and Gwen and I paused to look at him.

" A dress ? A female's clothing? " Gwen asked again and I placed a bowl of matzo ball soup before Blue before settling down before my own food.

" Um. I have to attend a business party tonight and I need to go with a female companion . " He replied and Gwen dropped his spoon gently.

He'd probably go with his fiancee, right? . I sipped on my own soup silently listening to their conversation.

" But you don't have any female friends I know of ... " Gwen said.

He might not have female friends but he has a female companion. How depressing.

" Oh , I do have now . " Blue said smiling at me as I take in his expression.

"Who ? "

" I'd take Regina with me " Blue replied.

"Wait what!!!...
