She is actually pretty good and fast for a ten-year old. I start behind her, catching up but staying just short of her lead. I can see her trying so hard, her face furrowed as she does the front crawl flipping her little head from side to side. This is what I must have looked like at ten. Everyone is cheering, some for me and some for Emma. As we approach the wall, I make sure to fall behind. And I watch as Emma touches the wall in front of her. Exhausted, she wipes the water from her eyes and hangs on to the edge and looks for me. I reach out and grab the wall and I hear Emma yell excitedly. “I won? I won!” This is the only time in my life it has ever felt so good to lose a race. “Yes, oh my gosh Emma, you are so fast! Good job!” I say encouragingly. I look over and I see Morgan is gone
