Chapter Ten I looked at my watch. It said 1.45pm. I stood in my usual spot in front of the Oxford with a smoke in my mouth. I saw Janet walk up from the corner block. She looked smart. She wore a cream-coloured blouse under a pale-blue, waist-length jacket together with a flared, navy-blue skirt. She held a tan, patent-leather bag that matched her open, heeled shoes. Janet looked preoccupied but broke into a smile when she spotted me. “Hello, Jack. It’s just a short walk downtown for our appointment. I’ve parked my car around the corner.
