Chapter 3

-Dakota POV- I have never been this close to him and he is... gorgeous. I have always seen him from far away and never really got a good look at his face until now. (Hot damn, this guy could reck me if I let him!) He stares at me with his dark eyes but suddenly they look darker than I thought they would be, I mean, darker than I have ever seen in eye colors. Almost like two dark voids. When I come to my senses, I almost piss my pants remembering who this is. I turn around and bolt away. His sister suddenly rushes past me, almost knocking me down and when I look back, she is holding him back to which I assume, he is trying to pick a fight with someone. He looks almost animalistic. His eyes find me again and I swear I almost s**t myself this time. I run out of the door and into the backyard. I take in a deep breath and it feels as if it was my first. “Oh look, it’s Dakota.” Zoe, one of my high school friends says. “Oh, hey.” I say. She walks up to me with Kylie. The three of us were good friends in high school but we were all so different. Zoe was the sporty one, Kylie the popular one and I was the nerd friend who tagged along with everything they did. Only a few months have passed but it feels like we all changed all of a sudden. "Hi, it's so surprising to see you here cause this is not your scene at all." Kylie says. I smile. "I came with some friends." "Oh... are they the ones from your little club?" She asks. "My club?" "Yea.. you know..." She lowers herself and whispers. "Your little nerdy club." (I had forgotten how much of a passive-aggressive b***h she was.) She is speaking about my D&D friends that I get together with some nights to play. Zoe, who has always been nicer, rolls her eyes at Kylie. My eyes avert to someone in the corner when I feel them staring at me. My face scrunches in confusion when I see Aubrey leaning on the wall, staring at me almost like she is watching me. (What is she doing?) "It's nice to see you here anyway. Did you get to rush this year?" Zoe asks and my eyes dart back to her. "Of course she didn't. She is not sorority material." Kylie says and laughs. "No." I say to Zoey with clenched teeth, trying to ignore Kylie’s comment. Zoe then gasps looking at my bruise. "What happened?" “Oh my gosh. That looks sooo bad.” Kylie says. She is not the type of girl that tries to be mean but everything she says comes out like that. My hand instinctively goes to my eyebrow where I can feel the bump. "Some ass hit me with a football." Suddenly a guy behind them starts laughing and gets into the conversation. "Oh s**t! That was me!" He says. He and his friends laugh and so does Kylie. "Melvin, you didn't?!" Kylie says laughing. Feeling angry I mockingly laugh. "Ha ha, yea it's SOOO funny." "Oh come on. Don't be such a sour puss." The Melvin guy says. "It's not like I did it on purpose but let’s be honest... it's not like you were going to win a beauty pageant contest before you had the bruise either, am I right?!" He says and starts laughing again with everyone else. I am so angry at this guy right now but before I can give him a piece of my mind, he opens his mouth again. "That bruise will be gone in a few days and once it's gone..." He stares at my body up and down. "I'll tap that." Outraged, I point a finger at him. "IN, YOUR, DRE-" I stop mid-sentence when he disappears from my line of sight with a loud thud. (Hu?... What happened?) I look to the side where all I see are tables crashing on the ground and Melvin grunting as he lifts his head up. I suddenly notice Austin standing on top of him. Austin grabs him by his shirt and punches him... over and over. Melvin pleads. "Oh s**t- *punch* Uh!- Austin!- *Punch* uh!- What the f**k did I do?!*Punch*" I have never seen so much anger and violence. I mean this is exactly what I was envisioning myself doing to Melvin, but it was just a thought. People start gathering around and they try to take Austin off of Melvin. I just back away and head back inside not wanting to be anywhere near this. I head through the front door and finally see these asses all talking and laughing in the front of the house, unaware of what just happened in the backyard. "Where have you been?" Brenda asks and puts her arm around me then her lips go directly to mine but I quickly look away. "Brenda! What the hell!" I shout and cover my mouth before she tries to kiss me again. She starts laughing, obviously drunk. "How much did she drink to get that drunk?" Lil asks Ethan. "A lot." He says groaning and taking her away from me. The guys laugh but then start looking inside, seeing the people riled up. "What the hell happened?" Hunter asks. "That guy Austin started beating up another guy." I say. “Of course.” Hunter says looking unsurprised. "Why?" Lil asks. I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know. But the guy that is getting beat up is a tool... so I say he maybe disserves it. Anyway, I am over this and I want to go home." I start to walk towards our dorms. "Me too." Natalie whines and follows me. Nathan walks next to us and looks at me. "Alright, but you promised." "I promised nothing!! Muahahaha!" I shout and start running. “Bye guys!” I shout to the others as I sprint down the street. Nathan is about to run after me but Natalie stops him. "Carry me on your back. Pleaaaassee." "But babe! She's going to get to the room first and lock herself in like she did that one time." He whines. She grunts. "It's fine. You have your car, right?" He suddenly stops and gives her a big smile. "Yes, yes I do." "There you go." She says lifting her arms up, motioning for him to carry her. "Ha ha ha! I won!" I shout as I leave them behind but I still stay close enough so I can see them cause I ain't walking alone in the dark from a party. When we get back to the dorms, they head to the car and I head straight to my room where I fall like a log on the bed, asleep. I am a heavy sleeper. I wake up to my alarm clock but the moment I sit up, I feel strange. My eyes skim the room but nothing is out of place. I notice that Natalie didn’t come back. I decided to put my unsettling thoughts aside and get ready. But the moment I leave my dorm, I get that feeling again only this time, it is a bit stronger. I feel like I am being watched but I only see the usual people around. I again ignore the feeling and head down to the parking lot where my car is but on the way, I see Nathan’s car. I go and tap on the backseat window and both Nathan and Natalie lift their heads up from under the blanket they are in. I can tell they are naked underneath. Nathan doesn't live here and neither do Lil or Brenda. They drive here when they have classes but since Natalie stays here, Nathan tends to stay with us whenever he can though it is against the rules of the dorm. I am fine with him staying as long as they keep it PG when I am in the room. “You can go back to the room, I won’t be back till tomorrow.” I say. “Okay, drive safe.” Natalie says and waves at me. I get in my Jeep and head out. I drive calmly through the forests that lead to my home and that unsettling feeling is gone. I feel normal again. My family and I have lived in our home since I was four. It is in a remote area with woodlands surrounding us. It is beautiful and what is more beautiful are the wild animals that come through. Foxes, deer's, and even wolves. I’ve loved them all since I was a child. As I come up to my parent’s cottage, I see dad working on one of his cars. When I park, I get out and run to him. “My beautiful girl!” He says and takes me in a hug. “Hi, daddy.” “How are you? How is school?” I giggle. “Everything is good.” He finally lets me go and kisses my head. I come every weekend and every time he sees me, he acts as if he hasn’t seen me for months but I love it. I never take for granted how much my parents love me. “Wait, are you working today?” I ask looking at this car that now I notice I haven’t seen before. It’s a soft pink Volkswagen beetle and it looks like it’s only a few years old. “Is this one of your client's cars?” I ask. He is a mechanic and has his own garage in town where he fixes cars. He makes good enough money that mom doesn’t have to work but she still does. She is a nail technician and has a little room in the back where she does her work. Women come to have their nails done. “No, it’s your mothers. I got it for her but it needs a little work.” He says. “Wow. This is nice. Did she like it?” “She loved it.” He says with a big smile. I am sure she does, it is her favorite color. “Good job dad. Making your woman happy.” I say and we both laugh. “Are the idiots here yet?” I ask. I don’t see their cars but they might be parked in the back. He smiles. “Yes, they are inside.” Before I can go, Boomer runs up to me wagging his tail like crazy. “Hey boy!” I lean down and pat him. “He misses you.” Dad says. “I know. I miss him too.” After giving him all the love he wants, he is finally satisfied and walks away. “Okay, let me know if you need help.” I say and walk to the side of the house. Dad has taught me a lot about cars. I am no expert but I know my way around them pretty well. Let’s just say I don’t need a man to change a gasket or a camshaft pulley. I know my way around an engine. It is even a family tradition to go to car shows and oh how I love my car shows. We all do. We are a car family if that is even a thing. I head inside through the back kitchen door. I can already smell the delicious food my mother is making. I slowly walk in and see mom leaning down, looking inside the oven, so I creep in behind her. “Boo!” I squeeze her side stomach and she screams. “AAH!” I gasp, laugh, and apologize all at the same time. “Sorry!” “Dakota! Why would you do that?!” She shouts at me. I hold my laugh as much as I can. “I didn't think you'd get that scared.” “What happened!” Phoenix, my eldest brother runs in looking frantic. “Your sister almost gave me a heart attack!” “Oh, man! You made me miss the play. I thought mom had burned herself or something.” He says. I roll my eyes. “Yeah, nice to see you too.” “We go to the same school you poop head.” He says. “You’re a poop head! And I never see you or Dallas in school anyway” “Say what?” Dallas, my other brother pops his head in at the mention of his name, looking lost. He is also older than me but a year younger than Phoenix. “Nothing... “Phoenix says. “...did they make the play?” “Yea. You missed it.” “AUH!” He groans and goes back to the living room. “I hate you, Dakota!” He shouts. I giggle. “No, you don’t.” He groans.
