(GAIE’S POV)
I could tell Vhiencent was getting annoyed with me, so I smiled to myself, secretly mocking him. I pouted as if I was about to cry and suddenly acted cute to irritate him even more.
"Uwu, my dress tore, huhu," I said, making Grandma burst out laughing, which made Vhiencent’s jaw drop.
"i***t, stop it," he muttered, secretly kicking me in the foot.
"What should I do?" I asked, continuing to act cute, still pouting. I couldn’t help but laugh at how frustrated he was, though I tried to hold it back.
This is for your freedom, Gaie!
Vhiencent bit his lower lip and slightly bowed his head. "Stop. You’re disgusting. You haven’t even had a drink, and you're already acting wasted," he whispered, kicking me again.
Angry, huh? Is he going to hurt me?
"Oh, Gaie. I love your personality so much! I think you two should get married right away!" Grandma suddenly exclaimed, making my world collapse.
She still likes him?
I straightened up and cleared my throat. I saw the new clothes had arrived, so I seized the opportunity to head to the restroom. "Grandma, I’m going to change," I said.
I limped a little because my knee had a bruise from when I slid across the floor earlier. "Ugh, how am I going to escape this wedding?" I muttered, shaking my head.
I picked out some expensive clothes, choosing the looser ones so I could eat more. Blessings shouldn’t go to waste. I wasn’t about to let my personal problems mess with my meal.
"I thought you were flushed down the toilet," Vhiencent sneered, adjusting his black necktie. He looked like he was going to a funeral with his all-black outfit.
"Why are you here—ow!" He suddenly slapped me on the back of the head, revealing his true colors that he’d been hiding earlier.
"You looked so annoying earlier. That act was disgusting! Don’t ever try to look cute again because it doesn’t suit you," he complained, full of disgust.
They really know how to hit below the belt.
"Your opinion doesn’t matter here. Move over!" I shoved him with my shoulder, not expecting that I’d be the one to fall. I screamed as everything seemed to slow down. I reached for his hand, but he just stared as I slipped.
I fell hard onto the floor, and I could feel the impact. Thankfully, my glasses didn’t break.
"Get up, you look even worse now," he commented as he looked down at me.
Such a gentleman! Ugh, Vhiencent!
"Gaie? What’s going on here?" Grandma asked, surprised, making me nervous. "Vhiencent, what did you do to Gaie?" Grandma pointed angrily at him, so I quickly tried to come up with a way to avoid a scene.
Think, Gaie!
I saw Vhiencent holding a cellphone, so I suddenly posed on the floor like a model. "Grandma, Vhiencent is just taking pictures of me!" I said, panicking, and flashed a fake smile. "Right, Vhiencent?" I glared at him, silently urging him to play along.
"Really?" Grandma asked, looking back and forth between us.
Vhiencent tilted his head as if he was trying to figure me out. "Right! I’m just taking some photos," he said, finally catching on to what I was trying to convey.
"I see." She smiled at us, still looking confused. "It’s getting late, and I’m tired. I’ll head out first," she said, calling her driver. "Vhiencent, take Gaie home or get a room instead. It’s up to you," she grinned, her smile too meaningful, making me swallow hard.
No way!
I finally breathed a sigh of relief once Grandma’s shadow was gone. I tried to stand on my own, but my body ached terribly.
Did I break something?
"Get up," Vhiencent ordered, suddenly grabbing my arm and pulling me up.
"Ow, that hurts!" I complained, feeling like I would never see the sun again from how hard he pulled me up.
He looked at my swollen knee and cleared his throat. "Come with me. I’ll be in trouble if Grandma finds out," he said seriously, crossing his arms.
Instead of being scared by his bad boss vibes, I laughed. He was wearing my red shoulder bag! He was muscular, tall, and handsome... but there he was, carrying my bag. It stood out because his outfit was all black.
In frustration, he threw the bag at me. "Look who’s laughing," he said, crossing his arms again and looking me up and down. "Your shirt’s inside out."
Damn, it really was!
Vhiencent took off his suit jacket and handed it to me. "You’re embarrassing. Wear this for the sake of my reputation," he said coldly, starting to get angry again.
I followed his order, afraid that people might laugh at me if I didn’t. "I’m going home," I said, limping as I took a few steps. I was desperately trying to escape the embarrassment I’d felt.
"Such a hard head," he muttered before suddenly putting his arm around me to support me. His expression was blank, but I could feel the irritation in his movements.
"I can go home alone," I complained, not wanting to owe him anything.
"Will you just shut up? I’m not doing this out of concern. It’s nothing to me," he said, so I just grimaced and stayed quiet.
We sat side by side in the car, leaving space between us. It was so quiet, and I wasn’t used to this kind of situation. It was so awkward.
"Driver, can you play some music?" I asked their driver, who looked at me through the rearview mirror.
"Mr. Tañedo doesn’t want music on. Sorry," he answered hesitantly, so I just smiled at him.
I glared at Vhiencent because this was so boring. I stared out the window, feeling embarrassed about the mess I had gotten myself into.
How am I going to face Paige now?
Vhiencent and I would also get in trouble with Mr. Tadeo for not finishing the pool cleaning.
"How long do I have to pretend to be your wife? I can’t just stop loving. I need to marry the person I love," I turned to look at Vhiencent and saw that he was asleep.
Poor guy must be exhausted.
I had the chance to observe him up close. He smelled so good, and I never noticed it before. His features were perfectly proportional. If he were kind, I would admit I might fall for him. But with how we always argue in this situation, I would never, ever fall for him.
I almost had a heart attack when he suddenly opened his eyes and caught me staring at him like a crazy person.
"Why are you staring at me?" he grumbled, so I quickly returned to my previous position and looked out the window.
"I have eyes," I said sarcastically.
"You’ve been fantasizing about me secretly," he said, looking smug.
Such an arrogant jerk!
"Huh? What are you talking about?" My cheeks turned red from the idea that he caught me staring.
"To tell you the truth, you’re the only one who’s going to get hurt by this," he said, making my blood boil. This guy was so full of himself.
"Hold on! Does my heart beat fast?" I grabbed his hand and put it on my chest to prove that I wasn’t attracted to him, but then I realized how foolish I was being.
At that moment, I felt my heart start to race. I quickly pushed his hand away and turned my back on him, completely embarrassed.
"You won’t charm me with your small chest," he said seriously, making me shut my eyes in humiliation.
Damn it, he misunderstood me! The nerve of this guy!
