The next day began with an eerie silence. I woke up exhausted, my muscles still tense and my mind spinning. The memory of his touch, of the way he held me, wouldn’t leave my head. Every movement, every gesture felt etched into my skin. A shiver ran through me just remembering it. I didn’t know if I hated him… or if something inside me was disturbingly awake. Soft footsteps at the door. It was Sofia. She slipped inside without knocking, as she always did, and paused for a moment when she saw me in bed. Her eyes held worry—but also a quiet understanding. “Isabella… are you alright?” she asked softly, coming closer. I slowly shook my head, searching for words. “No…” I finally admitted, my voice trembling. “I… I tried to run.” Sofia sighed, but there was no reproach on her face—only realism. “I know.” She sat down beside me gently. “It’s not worth it. He’s too dangerous, Bella. Not just for you—for anyone who tries to defy him.” My eyes filled with tears. “But I can’t stay here!” I murmured, my voice breaking. “I want to leave, Sofia… I need to get out!” She placed her hand over mine. “I know you want that, but running like this… it won’t work. You saw what he did last night. And you know he doesn’t lose control easily.” Her gaze locked with mine—firm but kind. “If you’re reckless, Bella, there won’t be a second chance.” I swallowed hard, fear mixing with frustration. I wanted to scream, to cry, to run… but deep down, I knew she was right. He was fast, relentless, and any mistake could be fatal. “Then… what do I do?” I asked, desperate. “How do I get out of here without him finding me?” Sofia sighed again, staring at the floor. “For now, you survive. Learn the rules. Figure out what he expects from you… and only then start thinking about escaping.” She gave me a faint, comforting smile. “And I’ll be here, to help you as much as I can.” For a moment, I felt a flicker of hope. It wasn’t much, but it was something. Someone here still saw me as human, not just a piece in his game of power. While we spoke, the door opened. My heart jumped. It was him. Sofia rose instantly, silent as a shadow, and slipped out with a subtle glance, leaving me alone with the man who dominated my life in ways I still couldn’t understand. He entered slowly, unhurried, his dark green eyes fixed on me. A chill slid down my spine. Even knowing he didn’t intend to harm me, his presence was suffocating. “Good morning.” His voice was low but steady. “Did you sleep well?” I shook my head, unable to form words. He stepped closer, sat near the bed, and studied me in silence. Every move he made felt deliberate—but there was something… different. A flicker of interest, of curiosity, that made me even more nervous. “Did you eat?” he asked finally, breaking the silence. I shook my head again, too afraid to look directly at him. “Then… let’s fix that.” Without waiting, he picked up a plate of food and moved toward me. My stomach knotted with nerves. He held the plate out, waiting for me to comply, but I hesitated—remembering the fear, the tension, everything from before. And before I could stop myself, on the first bite, instinct took over: I spat the food back at his face. Again. There was a moment of absolute silence. He only arched an eyebrow, his eyes blazing—not with anger, but with an intensity impossible to ignore. “Interesting…” he murmured. “You haven’t changed.” He wiped his face calmly, never taking his eyes off me. “But you still have to eat. I’m not playing.” Something inside me cracked. The need to survive, to keep my body strong enough to think of any chance of escape, won over my defiance. I started eating, reluctant but compliant, and he stayed there, watching every movement, unhurried, not touching me. When I finished, he finally spoke: “Good. This is a start.” His voice held an unusual note of approval. “But never forget: don’t try to run again.” I sat in silence, absorbing every word, every gesture, every glance. Something between us had shifted after that night. A silent understanding, an unspoken agreement—but it was there. He knew I wanted freedom, and I knew he had far too much power to simply let me go. As he left the room, I felt strangely vulnerable—and at the same time, strangely tethered to him. It was a confusing mix of fear, anger, and fascination I couldn’t decode. Sofia returned, reading my state at once. She sat beside me and gave me a small smile. “So… he didn’t hurt you?” she asked, a little surprised. “No…” I answered, still trembling. “But… he… there’s something about him that’s… strange. I don’t know how to explain it.” “You’ll understand in time,” Sofia said. “But for now, learn this: he controls everything. Not just his world—but yours, too. And you need to be smart, Bella. Never underestimate Dante Vitalle.” I spent the day trying to keep my head cool, breathing deeply, watching every move of those around me. That night, as I lay down, my thoughts circled back to escape. I stared at the tall window, the moon lighting up the mansion and its perfectly kept gardens. Everything looked calm—but I knew calm could be deceiving. As I watched, my mind built plans, ideas, possibilities. I needed to be ready. I needed to be careful. And above all, I needed to understand Dante before I tried anything. The tension, the fear, and the fascination tangled together inside my chest, preparing me for what I knew would be a battle of power and desire that had only just begun.
