“You see... I told you she's been saying crazy things ever since she put to bed," William said, barging into the room. I shot him a look of disbelief.
"Yes. Ella, your dad did tell me. You need to get some rest," Zane said, his tone gentle and soothing. He didn't believe me. He probably even thought I was delusional.
"What?! No! I'm not crazy! I'm telling you the truth! This baby isn't yours!" I screamed, trying to break free from his grip.
He just smiled at me, a calm and confident smile. He brushed his fingers over my lips, silencing me. He ran his hand through my hair, as if to comfort me.
"Shush now. No more words from you," he said, his voice low and firm. I fell silent, feeling hopeless and defeated. William smirked at me, a wicked and triumphant smirk.
Goddamn William!
He arranged for his driver and we all went home with the baby.
He wasn't joking.
He did prepare a lavish bedroom for me. It was the most spacious and luxurious in the house. He assigned a lot of maids to attend to me and the baby.
Before now, I used to share a room with two other women who were his failed breeders. But now I had a room of my own. It felt good to have some privacy and space.
Often times, I glanced at the baby and felt a pang of guilt and sadness. "What will I name you?" I whispered, caressing his face.
“"You could name him after me," I heard a voice say, as the door creaked open. I turned around and saw Leo standing there.
"Leo... what are you doing here?" I whispered, nervously then ran to the door and tried to close it.
"You mean... what are YOU doing here?" He snapped, pushing the door open. I knew he was mad at me.
"Leo, you shouldn't be here!" I said, panicking.
"Yes, I should! Zane assigned me to be your personal guard," he said, his eyes flashing. My heart skipped two beats.
"What?! No no no," I said, shaking my head. This was a nightmare.
"What do you mean? It's better this way! This way, I can stay close to my son!" He said, raising his voice slightly.
"Lower your damn voice!" I hissed, glancing around while he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Why? So Zane won't find out about us? What happened to our plan? You said you would give birth and then we would run away together!" He shouted, his voice full of frustration and pain.
I ran to him and covered his mouth with my hand.
"Leo, I beg you. Please lower your voice down! Zane has not kept to his part of the agreement yet and until he does that, I cannot elope. My mother would die!" I pleaded with tears in my eyes while his gaze softened towards me.
"Alright..."
"I'm sorry," he continued with a cracked voice as his gaze shifted to where the baby lay.
He walked slowly over to the baby's cot and looked at the child with a mix of awe and doubt. I felt a sharp pain in my chest, as if someone had stabbed me with a knife.
"Is he really my son?" He asked and I swallowed hard, feeling a lump in my throat.
"Leo. We are not sure you got me pregnant in the first place," I said defensively while he glared at me.
"What do you mean?! Alpha Zane is cursed. He got 10 women pregnant with only females! You can't be the one to change that fact! So I do know for a fact that this child is mine," he said and I opened my mouth to say something but stuttered instead.
"Leo... You don't know that. Let's leave this talk behind us for now till Zane has gotten my mum out of prison and free of all charges once and for all!" I said, my voice cracking with emotion while he nodded.
"It doesn't change the fact that this child is mine..." he said and I was losing my patience.
"How about you stop rubbing it in my face huh?! It's enough! You think it's easy for me to live in a stupid house with a man I don't love having s*x with me whenever he pleases and then cheating on him with the man that I love?!" I thundered and he seemed dazed.
"Ella... I..." he started but I interrupted him.
"Shut up! Shut up! I made Zane hire you as a guard in this home so we would be closer together not so you would make my life a living hell by haunting me with guilt!" I shouted and I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry okay," he said, close to tears as he walked towards me, caressing my cheek.
"I didn't mean to make you feel bad... it's just. I want you for myself and I cannot wait till we leave together," he said and I groaned rolling my eyes.
"You need to go Leo," I said pointing toward the door, refusing to meet his gaze.
"Don't do this please," he pleaded but I couldn't let him put my chance of saving my mother in jeopardy.
"This is my chance Leo. Please don't blow it up for me," I pleaded and he grabbed me swiftly, smashing his lips against mine.
I couldn't resist so I melted right into his embrace. We entwined our tongues in a fiery kiss that set my body on fire.
This wasn't the familiar comfort of his hands, it was lightning coursing through my veins, setting my senses ablaze.
“Leo…wait…” I muttered while kissing him but he refused to let go.
My breath hitched as his lips met mine, each kiss a searing brand etching his presence onto my soul.
A primal hunger roared within me… wait… is he?
He somehow maneuvered me all the way to the wall and pushed my back against it. My body ached, still recovering from childbirth, yet all I felt was a desperate yearning for more of him, more of this newfound connection.
All I wanted was to have even more and more of him.
He pulled away from me and in a second, his teeth started to grow longer, I instinctively revealed my neck for him and he was about to dig into my neck when my baby started crying.
"s**t! The baby!" I shouted, gasping for air and ran toward the baby.
"Come on Ella. We both know that's not why you're running from me," he said and I stopped in my tracks, feeling his eyes on my back.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said, pretending to be clueless while I heard him scoff from behind.
"Oh come on! You can't deny what we just felt..." he protested and I turned around to face him.
"Felt?!" I tried to deny it but his gaze pierced my eyes like he was reading my mind.
"Don't tell me you want to deny this too..." he said but I looked down at my feet instead. My mind racing.
"Ella! The moongoddess has finally granted our wishes! We are destined mates and you want to throw it away?!" He thundered.
"I would never do that Leo. You just can't mark me right now. I'm so sorry. I accept you and I want to be with you now more than ever but we have to keep it quiet as long as we are here," I said, standing my ground while he scoffed and placed his arms on his hips.
"Call me if you need anything," he said coldly and turned around to walk away when my door creaked open and Zane walked in.
"Zane!" I gasped, my eyes wide and my mouth open. My heart pounded in my chest, as if it wanted to escape.
"You know... I just came to check up on my son..." he said, his eyes raking over me with suspicion. He looked furious.
"Yes! He's doing well. We were just thinking of what we would name him!" I said, trying to sound casual. I forced a smile, hoping he wouldn't notice my nervousness. Leo smiled too, but he avoided Zane's gaze.
"Oh yea? And does naming him include you cheating on me?!"
