Chapter 3

Ulric pov I looked at my phone and smiled, shutting it and stuffing it into my pocket. I knew she wasn’t going to reply, but honestly I didn’t mind in the least. I had time to unpack everything now, not that it was much. The dark woods pack house was destroyed by the fire my father started after he killed my pack, so there wasn’t much belongings to be recovered. Somehow I always knew I wasn’t going to be a permanent resident of the Blood Moon pack, something in me never had the motivation to unpack anything or even buy anything other than some clothes to replace what I barely had. Unpacking only took an hour, and looking around the room made me feel like I should get more things. I felt like this was home. ‘Home.’ Leon copied me, breathing in deeply. I chuckled as I slipped my feet into my shoes. ‘You feel it to, buddy? It’s a nice warm feeling, like we can actually have a life here.’ I said to him as I grabbed my keys. He whined softly, placing his head on his paws. ‘What about Alice? What will happen if she rejects us again?’ He said. I frowned, walking down the steps from the third floor of the elite house I was placed on as I thought about what he said. I nodded at a few elites that gave me skeptical looks, looking me up and down as they tried to figure out who I was. Of course I was taller than most everyone here, most of them looked too intimidated to even ask me who I was. ‘Then I will keep rejecting her rejection, no matter how much pain it puts me in.’ I growled at him as I hopped into my car and turned it on. ‘I’m not sure if you know this or not. It doesn’t usually happen, but when you get rejected and you reject it, and you get rejected again, it keeps getting more and more painful each time. Eventually the pain will kill us all.’ He said. I frowned as I drove towards the town. We were a good three hours away from the Blood Moon pack, and the town we were now sharing with them for schools and shops was two hours away from us and one hour away from them. The town the Snow Moon pack was using had been attacked by rogues, most likely Sevra’s before I joined, though thankfully the pack was an hour away and they didn’t find it when they were raiding the town. ‘I’ll just have to convince her we’re not going anywhere and we love her.’ I said firmly to her as I drove to a shop with electronics. She had said five hours, I wasted two hours driving here and one hour unpacking, so I couldn’t take too long getting things. I got a new laptop and Bluetooth headphones so I could listen to music while I trained. After that I went to get more clothes and shoes, then I went to check out a cooking store. I’m sure they had their own cooking products at the packhouse, but I was picky with my things and I ended up buying new cookware. After that I went to a store where I could get decorations for my room. I got a few posters of my favorite bands, and ended up getting a few new CDs as well. After that I went to a book store, I wasn’t an avid reader like Lilian was but I did like to read somewhat. I got a few of my favorite book series that I lost in the fire and a new one from an author I liked. Once I was finished I packed everything up and headed back home, hoping I made it in time to unpack things. I wasn’t sure if she wanted to drive or not, but having my car free just in case wouldn’t hurt. She might not even have a car. I ended up speeding home for nothing, she sent me a text telling me she needed an extra hour because she was visiting Luna Liane. I honestly wanted to meet this woman that was best friends with my mate, but I knew she was having her twins any day now and I didn’t want to bother her. ‘Would that be a good idea? Alice was upset with us for finding out some information from Ginger, wouldn’t she just assume you tried to get more information behind her back?’ Leon asked with a whimper. I sighed, tightening my ponytail as I went to unload my car. ‘You’re right, I just don’t know what I’m doing. I don’t know where to step or how to step around her. She’s hard to figure out.’ I said with a deep sigh. It only took a few trips back and forth to the car to get the things I bought, and I put them away fast. I was setting up my laptop when she texted me saying she was getting dressed and to meet her in front of the Royal packhouse in half an hour. I stood up fast, nearly knocking my chair over as I grabbed a new outfit I bought today and slipped it on. It was a dark red button up shirt and black dress pants. I liked how the shirt sat on my wide shoulders, not too tight but just enough to show some muscle through my shirt when I moved. I undid my shoulder length blond hair and rebrushed it, slicking it back with a little bit of gel and tightening it back again. I dabbed on some cologne and slipped my phone into my pocket, putting on my shoes. I was nervous, my hands were sweating and I wiped them on my pants as I locked the door behind me. A couple of elite women on the floor were gathered in a group talking quietly when I walked towards the stairs. They stopped talking and eyeballed me, giving me appreciative looks. “Who are you handsome?” A girl with short spiky red hair asked me. Leon howled in annoyance at her, and I grunted as I tried to calm him. “My name is Ulric. I’m a new elite, I moved here from the Blood Moon pack.” I said to her with a smile. ‘Don’t flirt with other women!’ Leon howled at me. I tsked at him. ‘I’m not, I’m just introducing myself. They’re our pack now, we need to be nice to them.’ I said to him. The short red head put her hands on her hips seductively and grinned at me. “Well, my name is Tris, this is Beverly and this is Lisa. We’re all elites as well. We’re all single too, by the way.” She breathed out to me. I rolled my eyes in my mind, backing away as she tried to rake long fake nails down my arm. “Nice to meet you all. I hope you find your true mates, fortunately for me I’ve found mine.” I said with a grin. It felt so good telling people that. The girls groaned, and Tris tried to look around me. “Is your mate coming out of the room to introduce themselves to us?” She asked. I frowned, staring down at my feet. “Well actually, she’s the reason I moved to this pack. She hasn’t accepted me yet, but I’m not giving up on her.” I said proudly. “Who is she?” Beverly asked, flipping her waist length black hair over her shoulder. “Yes, we want to know if we know her!” Lisa said with a grin. She had the side of her head shaved, the other side was braided tightly against her scalp. I bit my lip, unsure. “It’s nothing against you ladies, I just don’t know if she wants her business out in the open yet. I’d rather not say unless she tells people herself.” I said. The girls ooohed at me, making remarks about me being a gentleman and so thoughtful, and Tris grinned seductively “Well you know where to find me if she rejects you.” She hummed at me. I shivered in disgust as she managed to touch me with her nails and quickly walked away from them. I could still hear them laughing at me as I went down the stairs. Not even five minutes later I was stopped on the first floor by two men who were glaring at me. They were fairly intimidating, big and stocky, wearing tight shirts to show off their muscles. It might have been intimidating to me if I wasn’t taller than them, and from what I could tell more muscular as well. I might not be Beta anymore but I was trained since I was five as a Beta, practically raised as an Alpha since Derrick moved me to the Alpha wing of the Dark Woods pack. We did everything together, even training. Derrick and I were closer than brothers, where one went the other one did as well. Before I abandoned him and let him die without trying to protect him. I couldn’t help wondering what would have happened with our life now if I had grabbed his arm and made him come with me. Would Alpha Titus, my uncle, have let us live with them while our packhouse was being rebuilt? We still wouldn’t have a lot of members to really have a pack, but with an Alpha alive to hold us together, would Derrick have submitted to my uncle or would he have rebuilt our pack and started over again? One of the guys grunted loudly, snapping me from my thoughts. “Who are you?” He practically yelled in my face, giving me a twisted look on his face that probably was meant to scare smaller people. ‘A muscle head. That’s what Derrick use to call people like these.‘ Leon said with a chuckle. I cracked a smirk at him, making the one who talked to me grunt again. I crossed my arms and glared at the men, trying not to chuckle as they shifted from my intimidating stance. “My name is Ulric. I moved here from the Blood Moon pack.” I said to them. The one who spoke raked his hands through a full head of thick dark brown hair as he frowned. The other one was bald, he was the one to reply to me. “Why are you here, did your alpha send you to spy on us?” He thundered stupidly. I sighed, rolling my eyes as Leon laughed in my head. “First off, the blood moon pack are now allies with the snow moon pack. Peace treaties have been signed already so there isn’t a need for a spy. Secondly, not that it’s any of your business, I moved here to chase after my true mate that lives in this pack.” I said with a low growl. The bald man shifted from foot to door, intimidated by me. The brown haired one smirked at me like an asshole. “Chasing after your mate? Did you get rejected? What a vixen she must be!” He cackled with laughter. I ground my teeth together in annoyance. “I take it you found your true mates then?” I asked softly, my rage building. The men looked at each other and shifted their feet, an awkward silence fell over them. Finally the bald one held up his hands, backing away slowly. The one with hair glared up at me, a challenge in his eyes. “I haven’t yet, but If I did she wouldn’t be making me chase after her!” He said with a growl. I shrugged, not particularly caring about this conversation as I checked the time on my phone. I started walking away and he followed me, screaming like an angry baby monkey. “No woman would dare make me chase her, I’d reject her faster than she could blink if she even tried to be cheeky!” He thundered. Faster than he could blink I turned around and grabbed him, throwing him against the door and pressing my elbow against his jugular. He struggled, his face going red as his little beady eyes popped wide open. “You would disrespect your mate? You would reject her if she didn’t instantly accept you? This is probably why the Moon Goddess hasn’t given you a mate. You might be a full grown man, but you’re thought process is childish.” I growled into his face. After another minute I let him go, and he fell to the ground coughing. I looked down on him as his friend ran to his side, trying to help him stand. “When you’re angry you look like a baby monkey, just thought you should know.” I said to him. He stared at me open mouthed, gaping at me as his friend tried to stifle back a laugh. Once they moved away from the door I walked out, letting it slam behind me. ‘So much for making friends with the new pack.’ Leon said as I straightened my shirt with an annoyed tsk. I jumped into my car and drove the short five minute drive to the royal pack house. ‘Well they shouldn’t have provoked me. First the annoying flirty woman, then the baby monkey, this pack is turning out to have awful members. If it wasn’t for Alice I might have just gone back to Tate.’ I said with a huff. I gripped the steering wheel as I sighed, trying to calm myself. ‘No I wouldn’t. I’m sure they’re great people, and I can’t deny the fact that this actually feels like it could be home. No matter how hard I tried before, I always felt like an outsider there. Maybe here I can find a place where I can belong.’ I said to Leon. ‘Yeah, I know what you mean. It feels calmer here, even though everyone is a hick.’ Leon joked. I laughed, turning off the car and getting out. He wasn’t wrong, everyone here had a distinct country accent. Especially Alice, it was cute watching her try to hide it, but when she got angry it definitely came out of her. I leaned against the car, looking around at the pack house as I waited. It was three minutes to the exact time she told me to come, and knowing her she was most likely punctual. I studied the pack house with a frown, noticing how different it was from Tate and Adaline’s. Adaline had made them place a giant maze like garden next to the pack house so she could go for walks, and there were flowers planted on every balcony. It was so bright and cheerful at the Blood Moon pack, the complete opposite of here. The pack house was sturdily build, but it looked like it wasn’t taken care of through the years. Cracks everywhere and vines growing up the sides. There were a few little garden plots on the sides of the building but they were empty, nothing had been grown in them in years. The whole building looked dark and drab, the kind of building that would house a ghost, if those were real. I was wondering what the training grounds looked like and if they were set up the same when the door opened, and Alice walked out. She was beautiful, I felt my face turn red as Leon whistled appreciatively in my head.
